Milton-Freewater is a city in Umatilla County, Oregon, United States. The city received its current name in 1951 when the neighboring rival cities of Milton and Freewater voted to merge. The population was 7,050 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pendleton–Hermiston Micropolitan Statistical Area. Milton-Freewater is home to a growing wine industry.

On the south end of the lake is a small community made up of vacation homes, lodging, restaurants, as well as other small businesses. Wallowa Lake has been used for recreation since at least 1880. The Wallowa Lake State Park is at the southern tip of the lake.

Upper Wallowa Valley, Oregon's Blue Mountains

The Nez Perce War 1877 was over the Wallowa Mountains and the Zumwalt Prairie this land was included in the Nez Perce Reservation by the US government treaty in 1855. Palmer and Stevenson the first Governors of the State of Oregon and Washington signed that treaty. A new treaty was signed in1863 by unauthorized Nez Perce Leaders to give up the land of the Wallowa's. Non Treaty Nez Perce were forced to leave their own land. Old Chief Joseph died before 1877. Young Joseph with 60 - 80 was stopped at Bear Paw Mountains in Montana 40 miles to Canada. It toke about 2000 US soldiers after circa 1500 to stopped 60 - 80 Nez Perce warriors.

Along Hells Canyon Scenic Byway south of Joseph, Oregon!

As you travel up and into this high country of northeastern Oregon you will find this road that takes you along the Oregon side of Hells Canyon and bring you down to the dams along the Snake river. This is a paved road, but it does get some deep snow up along this way. In the video you can see seven devils peak, the blue mountains are abit north and east is Idaho. Beautiful place to stop and rest. I traveled from Walla-Walla, Washington south to Milton-Freewater where I turned east over tollgate pass over to highway 82 through enterprise(beautiful mountain view) and through a peaceful and artistic place of Joseph, Oregon.
