Quebec Travel Guide | Visiting The Eastern Townships Video Transcript:
In today’s video we’re taking you to Quebec’s Eastern Townships, specifically Sutton!
Neither Sam nor I had been here before, but this destination proved to have it all, from unique accommodations and adventure activities to beautiful hiking trails and an emerging foodie scene.
We spent 2 days exploring the area in partnership with Tourisme Quebec and Merrell Canada, and here’s a look at what we got up to!
Our first stop was La Rumeur Affamée, which is a gourmet food shop right in the heart of Sutton specializing in local products. We dropped by to pick up a few items for a picnic since we had an action-packed day ahead of us. And being the foodies that we are, we couldn’t resist sampling a few cheese and caramel spreads while we were in there!
With our picnic lunch sorted, we got in the car and drove out to Au Diable Vert.
This place started out as a mountain lodge, but it’s grown to become an outdoor playground with lots of activities on offer.
After watching a quick instruction video, it was time to hop on this zipline bicycle Vélo Volant!
The circuit ran through the forest, over ponds, along ravines, and we also got glimpses of the Green Mountains of Vermont off in the distance.
The nice thing about this activity is that we could only go as fast as we pedalled, and we were encouraged to take it slow and stop to enjoy nature and our surroundings.
Once we reached the rooster, we chose one of the many trails on the property.
Later on in the afternoon, we went kayaking in the river, where the staff’s only warning was, “Don’t paddle more than 5 kilometres south or you’ll end up in Vermont!”
The waters here were dark but very shallow and calm with hardly a current, so if you’ve been wanting to try kayaking, this is a great place to do so for the first time.
I also noticed that they had Stand Up Paddleboarding, but it was early autumn, and we weren’t sure we wanted to go for a swim if we lost our balance!
We did a daytime unguided kayaking tour, but they also offer guided moonlight tours if that’s more your thing.
From there, we drove back to our chalet at Huttopia, which was our home away from home.
That afternoon we drove into Sutton. This is a charming little town in the Eastern Townships and it’s very walkable, so we parked that car and ventured out on foot.
The main street here is lined with cafes, boutiques, art galleries and historic buildings, so we enjoyed a leisurely stroll before making our way to a microbrewery for dinner at A L’Ábordage.
And that’s a wrap for our adventures in and around Sutton. We hope you guys enjoyed this video, and we’ll see you in the next one where we continue our trip through Quebec’s Eastern Townships!
This is part of our Travel in Canada video series showcasing Canadian food, Canadian culture and Canadian cuisine.

How much equality among social classes does exist in France?
Is equality among social classes in France something that is existing? How are social classes in France living happily together or is there a big gap between them? What is the situation in France when we are talking about social classes, ethnic groups? Are they co-existing in peace or ignoring each other completely? France has always known social classes, but also is it one of their pillars that equality must be lived.
Living like a God in France is a saying applicable to vacationers in France, but absolutely not to the French themselves: to them, life is nothing but worrisome. They are facing high unemployment rates, fear of new terror attacks and an important political division. What is left of pillars that are the basis of the French republic: Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité? And what does it mean actually, to be French, today? Dutch Parisian Wilfred de Bruijn uncovers an intriguing country, full of contradictions, far away from the cliches we all know.
The ideal of equality was the main driving force behind the French Revolution, but does equality really exist in France? Wilfred de Bruijn explores the gap between the different ethnic groups in his hometown of Paris in search of an answer. From the students of the prestigious Ecole de la Legion d'Honneur who talk lovingly about the republican values to the real people of Saint Denis that hold a much different discourse: Officially, I'm French, said a Muslim in the street, but not as French as the whites. In a different world, the 7th and 8th arrondissement, the old privileged elite of Paris lives, still holding on to their entitlement, despite the fact that the French nobility officially no longer exists. At the same time, in the suburbs of Paris there are no privileges and what was previously expressed in rap music and violent riots threatens to turn into radicalization and terrorism. Wilfred wonders: what binds the French yet?

WHAT we EAT in a DAY - Avocado Style
What I Eat in a Day! A special thank you to Becel with Avocado Oil for sponsoring this video (#BecelPaidPartner) (#ad). You've been asking us to share for a while now. It's finally here and it has a twist... We are sharing what we eat in a day - avocado style! Each recipe is themed around Avocados because, well, I (Kristen) am obsessed and Siya loves them as well.
We'd love to see your avocado creations! Which avocado recipes are you loving? Share them with us and we will repost. Also be sure to check out the link below for recipe ideas using avocado:
Avocado Recipes in This Video:
▻ Avocado Gluten Free Pancakes (makes around 8 pancakes)
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp Becel with Avocado Oil
- 1 avocado
- ½ coconut Milk
- 1 tbsp of dehydrated green (optional)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 cup gluten free flour or oat flour
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 chia seed egg (to make this you combine 1 tbsp of chia and 2 tbsp of water and let sit for a couple of minutes)
- 1 tsp of vanilla extract
Mix all ingredients together in a blender and blend until smooth. I typically put 3 tablespoons of the mix per pancake and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side. You can add kefir or yogurt and berries of your choice on top along with some dark maple syrup. Serve and enjoy.
▻ Strawberry Avocado Cucumber Salad (makes 3-4 servings)
Ingredients:
- 2 avocados
- 1 large carton of strawberries
- 1 cucumber
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 cup of fresh parsley
- 1 tbsp hemp seeds
- 1/4 cup of crushed almonds
- 1 squeezed lemon
- Salt and pepper to taste
Chop up avocados, strawberries and cucumber into bite size pieces. Mix in a large serving bowl. Add chopped up parsley and crushed almonds to the mix. Crush fresh garlic on top and squeezed lemon. Mix together. Top with hemp seeds, salt and pepper. Serve and enjoy.
▻ Creamy Avocado Pesto Zucchini Noodles (makes 2-3 servings)
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp Becel Avo Plus (within and for frying)
- 2 avocados
- 1 cup of basil
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 4 large zucchini
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- ¼ cup of pine nuts
- Salt and pepper to taste
Peel the zucchini and use a spiraller to turn the zucchini into spaghetti like pieces. Let the spiralled zucchini sit on a cloth or paper towel to help soak up some of the liquid while you make the sauce. Put the rest of the ingredients in a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth. Fry up the zucchini for 1-2 minutes until a little golden. Mix the zucchini and sauce together. Serve and enjoy.
▻ Avocado Chocolate Mousse (makes 2 servings)
Ingredients:
- 2 avocados
- 1 banana
- ½ cup of cocoa powder
- ½ cup of coconut milk
- 1 tsp of vanilla extract
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1 tsp of maple syrup
- Vegan chocolate chips to top
Mix all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. Pour into a Mason jars and put in fridge for a bit to let cool. Top with chocolate chips or cacao nibs. Serve and enjoy.
▻ Avocado Fries (makes 1 serving)
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp Becel Avo Plus (for frying)
- 1 firm avocado
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder OR 1 clove of crushed garlic
- 1/2 cup of nut milk
- 1/2 cup of almond flour
- 1/2 tsp Himalayan sea salt
- 1/2 cup of nutritional yeast
- 1/2 tsp paprika
Cut avocado into long slices (think french fry sized slices). In one bowl, mix garlic powder, paprika, salt and almond flour. In another bowl, add nut milk. In another bowl, add nutritional yeast. Take each avocado slice at a time and dip from the almond flour mix to the nut milk to the nutritional yeast. Fry in pan for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Serve and enjoy.

Auschwitz now in the eyes of Dore
How is Auschwitz in the eyes of Dore? Why is Dore visiting Auschwitz again? What is it, that makes Dore going back to the city of Auschwitz? A travel documentary about Auschwitz, family, and roots.
The 100th anniversary of the country is celebrated on the independence march in Warsaw. There, Dore speaks with ultra-right nationalists about their ideal Poland. How does Poland celebrate 100 years of independence? Seas of white-red flags, popping fireworks and the slogan: God, honor, homeland. These are the characteristics of the independence march in Poland. Every year on November 11, thousands of Poles walk on the streets in Warsaw to express pride for their home country.
A quarter of a million Poles live in the Netherlands. Dutch-Polish journalist Dore van Duivenbode is one of them. In this series, she travels back to her motherland, where she visits her family house near Oświęcim, former Auschwitz. In Bialowieza, in eastern Poland, she tries to find out why a forest is causing much tension. In Warsaw, she gets deeper into the hot topic of abortion. Here strong supporters and opponents are giving their perspective. Her travels bring her also to North Poland, where she meets a low-income family and talks with the famous and notorious opposition judge Igor Tuleya. A travel series about Poland, a country that is more and more divided and cursed by its geography location.
In this first episode, Dore is present at a special edition: the celebration of a 100-year-old independent Poland, which attracted around 200,000 people. What are they celebrating?
The curse of Poland. That's how the country is called because of its geographic location.
Enclosed by two great powers, Russia and Germany, Poland has existed for years in the spheres of influence of others. In 1795, the Polish territory was divided between Austria-Hungary, Prussia, and Russia, thereby losing its independence. Until a hundred years ago. Then after the First World War Austria-Hungary fell apart, Germany emerged as a loser and Russia had to contend with a civil war. Military Józef Piłsudskizag took his chance and declared Poland, after 123 years of non-existence, again independent.
That happened on November 11, the day on which Polish independence is now celebrated annually. Piłsudski is still remembered today, also on the march, as founder of the Second Polish Republic. However, despite his big win, Poland again did not have a say. The Second World War meant German aggression followed by decades of Soviet, and only when Communism fell in 1989, Poland was more able to move freely again.
The Soviet influence has left his trace. Also, the urge to make your own decisions all the more significant. Among those decisions are NATO membership in 1999 and EU membership in 2004. Something that conflicts with Poland's desire to act entirely independently. All these emotions play a role in the independence march. Moreover, that makes it for many Poles so important to embrace their own Polish identity on this day (and all other days of the year).
