SEDONA AZ TO THE SOUTH RIM! VIA GRAND CANYON RAILWAY-WILLIAMS, AZ-EP44
Opportunity that presented while in Sedona Az was to ride the Grand Canyon Railway train to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
This 1.5 hour drive to the town of Williams AZ had to happen in the early morning hours, because our train boarded at 9am sharp!
We had planned to drive to the Grand Canyon in our Honda and stay at the Bright Angel Lodge in the Grand Canyon National Park for four days this coming March 2019. We would have been traveling from our encampment in Las Vegas, and would have been leaving the bus behind. This quick train trip was so nice, and got a complete enough “taste of the scenery that we canceled that much longer stay, and now plan to come back when the weather is warmer, with ZERO possibility of snow and we will be staying in Myles.
We took the bus excursion at the canyon that included lunch. If we could do it over again, with the limited time at the canyon, I would take the bus excursion WITHOUT lunch included. If you pack your own, the bus you will be getting on, when the train arrives at the terminal, will GET GOING IMMEDIATELY. You can then eat on the tour bus, and with the extra HOUR you will have at the end of it, you will be able to walk around the village area.
You will be able to explore the historic resorts and old lodges that line the rim, as you experience another hour of magnificent beauty strolling the rim walkway. The costs for this experience are well documented on line. The train car you see in this episode was the Mary Colter Luxury Dome. We would pick this same car again.

This corridor is like a journey through American history, where you can see flickering neon signs, abandoned gas stations, quirky museums, breathtaking natural formations, old-fashioned diners and motels, and some of the nation’s most-famous landmarks.
Don’t rush your Route 66 road trip; the journey is the destination here.
