Amsterdam, Austria and Munich Germany
Join us on our adventures around Europe. Starting in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Amsterdam is a party city and a drawcard for tourists from all over the world. It is famous for its liberal society allowing the sale and use of cannabis in its cafes and bars. (try some of their famous space cakes and hash cakes.) It is also well known for its liberal views on the sex industry. Having many rooms and shopfronts where the industry is as normalised as having a coffee in a café! Also check out the canals, windmills and millions of bikes. It has the highest per capita bike use in the world. From there we caught a train to see some friends in Austria. The train system in Europe is really efficient and virtually on par with air travel when it comes to travel times. We travel through the Alps by train which is an amazing trip in itself. I highly recommend it over air travel where you'll miss out on all the beautiful scenery through the train windows . We travel through Vienna, Graz and on to Rogner Bad Blumau spa resort which is a great way to relax and unwind in the middle of your travels. There are heaps of various hot spring spas and pools to indulge in, both outdoor and indoor. You can even catch an outdoor cinema while sitting in the warm water.
From there we head to Munich in southern Germany. Its a great place to explore for a few days. There's lots of history and beautiful architecture. Hofbrauhaus restaurant and beer garden and street performers in the evenings. You'll have to try the pretzels, sausages, sauerkraut and schnitzel! We visit the Munich residenz which is the former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs. You can go on a tour inside. It really is an amazing look at the extreme wealth and opulence of the ruling elite of the time. Also have a look at BMW Welt for interesting information on the history and future of the BMW brand. Its located not far from the BMW headquarters and factory. Another great place to spend a warm summer afternoon is at the Englischer Garten which is a large public park within the city. We had lunch and drinks near the Chinesischer Turm (Chinese tower)in a huge beer garden within the park. It really is a typical Munich experience. Lastly A trip to Munich is not complete without a visit to Neuschwanstein castle. Built by Ludwig II of Bavaria in the 19 century atop rugged forested mountains.
