To visit Paris is to visit one of the greatest cities in the world. In fact, many would say that a visit to Paris serves as a crash course in how to live. People don't rush lunch. Children are doted upon. Hairdressers are always busy. And although you can't take Paris with you, when you return home, that sense of how to live will linger.
Stroll along the banks of the Seine and take in the view of the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Notre Dame. Stand on the Arc de Triomphe to see the leaf-lined avenues of the city spread out before you. Lose yourself in the narrow streets of Montmartre and challenge yourself at the modern Centre Pompidou.
Indulge yourself in culinary ecstasy. From light and flaky croissants in the morning to a rich slab of foie gras in the evening, Parisians love food. From the neighbourhood bistro to the Michelin-starred restaurant, dining out in Paris is a joy. For the genuine foodie, Paris is the holy city. For the art lover, Paris is the holy city. Paris is rich in literary history too. Inspire yourself by sipping coffee in the cafés that entertained Hemingway, Sartre, Camus and Simone de Beauvoir. Roam around Notre Dame looking for Esmeralda and keep a watchful eye out for any one of the Three Musketeers.
Haggle over antiques in flea markets across town, climb the steps to the cube some call a modern monstrosity in the zone called La Defence. Party til dawn in the city's pulsing nightclub scene and laze away afternoons in the grassy tranquil parks. Shop for spices in open air markets and scrub and soak your cares away in the magnificent hammam in the Paris Mosque.
Shop for fashion in the homeland of Coco Chanel and drown in designers on the classy Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Tiptoe around the Palace of Versailles and imagine life in the time of Marie Antoinette.
Celebrate the city's scientific side at Marie Curie's old office and think about milk at the Louis Pasteur Institute. Fill your mind with the music of Edith Piaf and the marvel of Rodin's sculpture The Kiss. Test your stomach with the freshest steak tartare and turn people-watching into a game known as spot the baguette.
Above all else, take the time to enjoy life. The rest of France may consider life here to be a crazy, fast-paced, wretched way to live -- but to the rest of the world it's a sweet, soothing tonic.
Beauty. Romance. Good food. Fine manners. A city seduced by lanterns, awash with culture and alive with innovation and the ability to surprise. Its nickname may be the City of Lights rather than the oft-confused City of Love. But regardless of convention, Paris is a city to love. And one to return to again and again.

Blois, a hillside city on the Loire River, is the capital of the Loir-et-Cher department in central France. The late-Gothic Blois Cathedral towers over its cobbled center. Nearby, the Château Royal de Blois is a former royal palace with ornate chambers, and paintings and sculptures from the 16th to 19th centuries. Opposite, La Maison de la Magie Robert-Houdin explores the history of magic and holds live performances.
Towering above the northern bank of the Loire, Blois’ royal château, one-time feudal seat of the powerful counts of Blois, offers a great introduction to some key periods in French history and architecture. The city makes an excellent base for visits to the châteaux, villages and towns of the central Loire Valley. Blois attracts many visitors because of the popular Chateau de Blois that is situated in the town, but Blois is also a very pretty town with plenty of historical sights to see and also a vibrant centre. It makes a very good base for visiting the castles of the Loire valley.
The Chateau de Bois sits at the top of the town on the edge of a large square. From this side it looks like a large manor house with its brick and stone facade. Above the entrance is a statue of King Louis XII mounted on a horse. The chateau has many interesting rooms to visit and its internal courtyard reflects 4 different periods of history in its architecture. The square in front of the castle was once part of the castle and was surrounded by walls and contained stables, armouries and religious buildings. During King Louis XII the castle lost its military focus and various mansions were built around the square for those closest to the King.
The building that is now the Maison de la Magie opposite the castle entrance was built in the 19th century and the area became a public square following the bombing of the city in 1940. The Maison de la Magie is now a museum dedicated to magic and the art of illusion. It contains many objects that belonged to Houdini and his life and work are a major part of the exhibition. There is also a show created by Ferard Majax called the Hallucinoscope.
Below the castle is a lively old town with narrow streets and ancient buildings. Blois was in its heyday as a royal town in the 16th century and much of its architecture reflects this period though there are also buildings dating to the 12th century. The ancient town includes many late Gothic and Renaissance palaces such as the palace of the Archbishop, surrounded by terraced gardens close to the Loire.
On the eastern side of town is the Cathedral of Saint Louis, dating from the tenth century, and in Gothic style. Inside it has magnificent windows which were created by a Dutch artist Jan Dibbets in 1992. Opposite the cathedral, the ‘Maison des Acrobates’, dates from the fifteenth century. Behind the cathedral is the town hall and Bishop's garden. The Fondation du Doute is an interesting building which is a Contemporary Art Centre based around the ideas of the Fluxus Group. Conceived by the artist Ben, there are works by various artists including Duschamp, Dali and Man Ray. The Café Le Fluxus is a great place for a coffee or bistro lunch. It certainly makes quite a change to castle visiting in the area.
Blois has several very nice gardens. The Bishop's garden (Jardin de l'Eveche) behind the cathedral has some wonderful views over the Loire as well as a lovely rosary. Near to the chateau the Jardins du Roy are a beautiful contemporary garden with box hedges cut in lines and waves and interplanted with roses in a very original way. Other areas include ponds and fountains and more contemporary style planting.

La Coupole, the legendary Parisian brasserie, history and gastronomy interwined.
A trip to Paris must include sitting at a table at the famous art deco La Coupole restaurant. La Coupole is the most well-known Parisian brasserie in the world. It represents the artistic and literary Montparnasse of the 20s, where many famous people have rubbed shoulders since 1927. Opened on 20 December 1927 with a celebratory cocktail party at which 1,500 bottles of champagne were consumed by the likes of Jean Cocteau and Ernest Hemingway, La Coupole has retained its reputation as the essential meeting place for Paris. Its famous mural covered columns painted by such artists as Brancusi and Chagall, dark wood panels and soft lighting have hardly changed since the days of Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Picasso, Soutine, Man Ray, Josephine Baker and other regulars. The atmosphere of this superbly decorated restaurant is divine. Waiters with huge trays of exciting seafood moving effortlessly around just adds to the fun. Highly recommended for a memorable meal.

Saint-Germain-des-Prés is one of the four administrative quarters of the 6th arrondissement of Paris, France, located around the church of the former Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Its official borders are the River Seine on the north, the rue des Saints-Pères on the west, between the rue de Seine and rue Mazarine on the east, and the rue du Four on the south. Residents of the quarter are known as Germanopratins.
The quarter has several famous cafés, including Les Deux Magots, Café de Flore, le Procope, and the Brasserie Lipp, and a large number of bookstores and publishing houses. How to enjoy Paris when it's raining? For some, a walk in the rain is a fun and romantic way to spend some time. Grab an umbrella and head out to the streets of the city. It will be much quieter than usual which can be really nice. If you are like me and don't enjoy getting wet, spend the afternoon at a café. Nothing is more Parisian than opening the door of Café Les Deux Magots on a rainy day and being wrapped up in warm coffee smells and a Parisian atmosphere. Situated directly on Place Saint-Germain-des-Prés, this place offers an unrestricted view of one of the oldest religious buildings in the capital, the Abbaye de Saint-Germain. Take a table by the window and enjoy a freshly baked cake, tart, or macaroon with a cup of coffee or tea. If you like a light meal, order a Croque-Monsieur or a sandwich made out from Poilane bread. You could also enjoy the famous sweets from Pierre Hermé such as the chocolate and toffee macaroon, the Ispahan macaroon perfumed with rose or the praline flavored 2000 feuilles. Beyond its gastronomic assets, the famous café can pride itself on its one hundred years of history. It was once the meeting place of the literary and intellectual elite of France such as Verlaine, Rimbaud, Mallarmé, André Gide, Picasso, Prévert, Hemingway, Simone de Beauvoir, Jean Paul Sartre.
