Man Kayaks 4,000 Miles From Minnesota to Key West
A kayaker completes a 4,000 mile trip in 9 months.
How far do you think you can kayak on a single trip? 10 miles? 30 miles? 60 miles? How about 4000 miles?
A man has kayaked all the way from the northern most tip of the lower 48 states in Minnesota to the southern most point in the United States in Key West, Florida.
31 year old Daniel Alvarez successfully completed his solo kayak trip in about nine months.
He paid for his trip using some of the money from a ten thousand dollar prize that he received courtesy of Outside magazine.
He only stopped his journey briefly and hitchhiked to South Bend, Indiana to watch his father be inducted into the college football hall of fame.
His route took him from Northwest Angle in Minnesota, through the Boundary Waters and Lake Superior, down the Mississippi River, and across the Gulf of Mexico.
When he had to change waterways, or if he reached a passage he could not navigate on his kayak, he hauled the kayak and his gear to the next place to put in.
Alvarez wrote an email to a journalist from Minnesota Public Radio which said: It's the least solo solo trip ever. I was thinking about how many people have helped me along the way and felt truly lucky to have been able to meet so many great people.

Paddling to Pictographs in the Superior National Forest II
This is a canoe trip that we planned for the day starting in the Superior National Forest in Northern MN.
Part of the trip brought us within the Boundry Waters but the Pictographs were in the SNF itself. The trip was close to six miles round trip, and lasted about five hours since we werent in a hurry at all.
There were three portages to carry on and they were each done twice, once there and once back. A 40 rod, another 40 rod and the last one a 60 rod portage.
These are some of the best activities we enjoy together.

PART ONE: Flying DELTA from KY to DC for Rochester Minnesota
PART ONE: Flying DELTA from KY to DC for Rochester Minnesota
Although this is not a minute by minute accounting of my time in travel. My trek will be multipart from takeoff to return with very little editing. Sporting some excursions videos while in Minnesota such as:
Minneapolis, Saint Paul, MN State Fair (record number turnout), The Mall of America, Big Fork, and Duluth etc.
Let's not forget Grandma’s Kitchen. Went there on Saturday mornings for breakfast. The food was good, the atmosphere was casual and the service was exceptional. Regardless of how busy and full their restaurant waits were short to be seated.
One thing you can be certain in life is if something can go wrong it will. I scheduled my flight from KY to DC well in advance. On day of actual departure, I checked and all was on schedule.
After being dropped off at airport I check monitors. Only to see my flight was not delayed but CANCELED. Checking my online account everything is still a go. Vexed I head to TSA and the line is very very very empty.
Come to discover indeed flight was canceled and have to rebook. Standing in line forever I get rebooked and smile back on my face once more. Scanning my ticket, I see my flight doesn't leave until 4:58pm EST. This is where time stands still. No smile anymore.
The delays just kept coming and I finally arrived in Washington DC after midnight. No buses, No subway etc. Strained at the airport ... with just a few bars left on my cell. As much as I loathed enabling and installing updates for UBER 'PAUSE' I did.
Less than six minutes a black BMW came transporting me to my final destination at friend's apt.
I haven't traveled much by plane and this was my first experience trapped in an airport. Hopefully it will be my last...crossing fingers, arms, legs and toes.
