Brentino Belluno is a comune in the Province of Verona in the Italian region Veneto, located about 110 kilometres west of Venice and about 25 kilometres northwest of Verona. The municipality of Brentino Belluno contains the frazioni Belluno Veronese, Rivalta, Brentino, and Preabocco. Brentino Belluno borders the following municipalities: Avio, Caprino Veronese, Dolcè, Ferrara di Monte Baldo, and Rivoli Veronese.

The Shrine of the Corona is a place of silence and meditation, extended between heaven and earth, hidden in the heart of the Baldo rocks.

A holy tradition dates the birth of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Corona to the 1522, the year when the sculpture venerated here was miraculously transported through angelic intervention from the island of Rhodes. In 1625 works began on the construction of a new and more spacious church 4 metres above the previous one which was incorporated beneath the new presbytery. In 1974, the church was partly demolished and reconstructed.

There are many sculptures in the Shire, the majority of which, in white Carrara marble, are by the sculptor Ugo Zannoni from Verona. Along the right wall of the Shrine there is a real historical-artistic patrimony of ex voto: 167 tablets of different sizes the oldest of which dates to 1547 and shows the miraculous saving of a woman about to drown in the Adige in Verona. Bronze casts by the Veronese architect Raffaele Bonente can be admired along the access road (from Spiazzi and from Brentino Belluno).

How to reach it:

From Verona, through the Autostrada A22 up to Affi. Than follow with the “provinciale” street to Caprino and Spiazzi for 20 km. You can go to the Shrine through stairs from Spiazzi (about 20 minutes) or by mini-bus

For the entire pilgrimage, instead, you start from Brentino Belluno and you have to go up 1540 stairs. A difference altitude of 1400 meters and travelling time of about 2 hours to go up and 1 hour to go down.

Die Marianische Kirche, genannt della Corona ist mit Sicherheit das bemerkenswerteste der Diözese Verona und ist religiöses Ziel nicht nur der Veroneser, sondern auch der Gläubigen aus ganz Italien und auch aus Osterreich und Deutschland.

Die Kirche befindet sich an einem Ort, der della Corona genannt wird, was von einem antiken Begriff abstammt: Korn und Krone, was Felsen, Steinwand, oder ähnliches bedeutet. Der Ort erregt Aufmerksamkeit durch seine morphologischen Qualitäten: es ist eine Art von Steinbalkon, der eine Steinwand von über 500 m Hohe unterbricht, mit 100 m über dem Balkon und ungefähr 350 m unter ihm. Die Kirche liegt auf der östlichen Seite des Monte Baldo, eine Bergkette, die gleichzeitig auch berühmt für seine seltene Pflanzenwelt ist.
