Family Has Been Sailing Around The World Non-Stop For 9 Years
The Gifford family left their home in Washington in 2008 to sail around the world. They have not stopped since. We met up with them in the summer of 2016 in Noank, Connecticut to learn their story and to see how they all live on a 47-foot sailboat.
Follow the Giffords on their journey.

Davis Creek Obsidian Mines + Peterson Mountain Quartz Crystals
The 3rd and final installment of the Epic CA + NV roadtrip with the little one. In this episode, we make it to the Davis Creek Obsidian 'mines', which used to be actual mining claims. In the mid-1970's, the tyrants in the Federal government dispossessed the miners of their claims, and opened the area up to the public - sort of.
Except now, to gather obsidian, you need a 'permit' (which is free, but still annoying). Basically, you need government permission to use public lands and gather inorganic resources. Ready for tar and feathers, yet?
The next day we drove to Peterson Mountain, also in the People's Socialist Republic of California, to look for quartz crystals and gems. Mother Nature decided to throw us a curve ball. We obviously made it out - barely.
All in all, a good trip - and definitely something everyone should do with their kids, to whatever extent their means and experience permit. Kids love to be dirty, tired, and messy. The outdoors really is our original natural habitat. There is no reason to shy away from it!
