Places to see in ( Perugia - Italy ) Corso Vannucci
Corso Vannucci is the main street of Perugia . The street, named after Pietro Vannucci , a painter born in Città della Pieve and famous with the name Il Perugino , develops between imposing and important palaces: Palazzo dei Priori (on the ground floor the Collegio del Cambio , frescoed by Perugino , and the Collegio della Mercanzia ), Palazzo dei Notari (15th century), Casa di Baldo degli Ubaldi (15th century), church of sant'Isidoro (deconsecrated), Palazzo Donini (1716).
The artery starts from Piazza IV Novembre and ends in Piazza Italia. Various streets and alleyways depart from the course: via Fani, via Mazzini and via Danzetta link it with piazza Matteotti , after the evocative via dei Priori intersects with the medieval alleys via Scura, via della Luna and via delle Streghe. Before Piazza Italia the course is finally intersected by Via Bonazzi and Via Forte.
Corso Vannucci, often called the Salotto Buono of Perugia , is characterized by a strong vitality and dynamism ( making a tub , in Perugian dialect, is equivalent to saying take a walk in Corso Vannucci), and alongside historical activities such as the Pasticceria Sandri , there are bars, theaters, bookshops, shops and boutiques of any kind. Halfway through the intersection with Via dei Priori, we note the entrance to the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria .
The construction of the upper part of Perugia began in the Etruscan period . The course joins the Colle del Sole to the Landone hill, whose depression has been filled according to ancient engineering works. In the Middle Ages the course expanded to the current Piazza Matteotti, including it in itself. The ancient plan of the historic center of Perugia , in the shape of a star, was characterized by five doors reachable in the vicinity of this important route. The course never lost its prominent position, even during the pontifical domination . With the annexation of Umbria to the Kingdom of Italy in 1861 , the renewed Piazza Italia, seat of the institutions of the Region and Province, strengthened its centrality. From the second half of the twentieth century the course was completely pedestrianized.
