Ciao, everyone!
This is Bojan from The Roman Guy.
Welcome to the new Trevi Fountain in Rome.
The restoration of the Trevi Fountain took over a year and a half, and it was sponsored by the fashion house, Fendi, who invested two million euros in the project.
But it's not the first time a fashion house actually sponsors a restoration of a Roman monument. The Colosseum, who was sponsored by Todd's and right now, the Spanish steps are being sponsored by Bulgari.
The beautiful Trevi Fountain was constructed in the 18th century.
It took several decades, several Popes and architects to finish the project.
Most of you probably know it from the famous movie La Dolce Vita directed by Federico Fellini, because right here, we had the famous scene where Anita Ekberg and Marcello Mastroianni take a dip in the fountain.
I would demonstrate it for you but I'll get fined 500 euros for it, and that's a lot of pizza so I'm not going to do it.
The Trevi fountain is 300 years old, but its story goes way back in history. In this very place, 2,000 years ago, we had the endpoint of a Roman aqueduct called Aqua Virgo. It was built by a man called Marcus Agrippa.
Legend has it he led his armies to this place where he encountered a young Roman girl who showed him and his soldiers a well of water.
Eventually, he will build this Roman aqueduct which will end right here.
1,800 years later, we have this spectacular fountain leaning on the façade of this building behind me.
Trevi Fountain is the endpoint of the Aqua Virgo aqueduct that used to supply the city of Rome with fresh water back in the day.
Today, we have a system of aqueducts in Rome supplying water not only to the people in the city but to every single fountain you will see in Rome.
People have been throwing coins into the Trevi Fountain for the longest time.
Now, some do it for health, some do it for love, some do it for luck, but legend has it, the Trevi Fountain will only grant you one wish, the most important one of all and that is that one day you return to this amazing city.
Nowadays, all the money thrown in the fountain is donated to charity so it's actually for a good cause.
Rome at 8am - Spanish Steps to Trevi Fountain (NO CROWDS) 4k/60fps
This walk was filmed on January 6th, 2019 at 8am and begins at the top of the Spanish Steps(00:22) and ends at the Trevi Fountain (15:48). This is the morning of the Feats of the Epiphany, an Italian national holiday which commemorates the twelfth day of Christmas when the three wise men brought gifts for baby Jesus. For Italian children, this marks the day when La Befana, an Italian witch, flies around on her broomstick bringing gifts for all the children.

20 Things to do in Rome, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: (ROMA)
Rome, the Eternal City. After several trips to Italy, we finally managed to visit our biggest oversight: the capital! From wandering through Roman ruins to devouring pizza, and climbing up lookout points to feasting on gelato, in this travel guide, we’re going to share with you 20 things to do in Rome, Italy:
We reached Roscioli which was the best pizza in Rome. Pizzas are served by the weight and we sampled 7 different pizza slices.
We stopped at Largo di Torre Argentina an archaeological site home to four different temples containing parts of the portico of Pompey.
It was a short walk to the Pantheon, a former Roman temple turned church, which dates back to the year 125 AD. The Pantheon boasted the world’s largest cupola up until the 15th century, and it is still the largest unreinforced concrete dome in existence to this day making it one of the greatest architectural achievements by the ancient Romans.
If you want to find the best gelato, look for colours that are muted with small batches.
One of the many things to do in Rome, was to visit the Trevi Fountain. This is the largest Baroque fountain in the city.
Rome’s most famed attraction is the Colosseum and its surrounding ruins. We started our visit on Palatine Hill, the most central of Rome's seven hills. What visitors see today are the ruins of the Palace of Domitian, a 1st-century complex, which served as the main imperial palace for 300 years. We continued to the Roman Forum. This square was the centre of ancient Roman life, with government buildings, temples, and markets. We reached the Colosseum, which was the largest amphitheatre ever built and could hold an estimated 50,000 and 80,000 spectators.
Walking through the Vatican Museum was more overwhelming than enjoyable. We visited Vatican City to climb St. Peter’s Basilica for views of Rome.
Castel Sant’Angelo was commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family.
Villa Borghese is the 3rd largest public park in Rome with gardens, villas, and ponds with views of the city overlooking Piazza del PO-polo, the people’s square.
That concludes our tour of Rome showcasing the many things to do in Rome on your own trip.
This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine.
