Places to see in ( Aix les Bains - France )
Places to see in ( Aix les Bains - France )
Aix-les-Bains is a thermal spa town on Lake Bourget in the Savoie, eastern France. Swimming, sailing and golf are popular sports. Landmarks include the Roman ruin, Temple of Diana, in the town hall and the belle epoque Château de la Roche du Roi. The Abbaye d'Hautecombe, on the opposite shore of the lake, is a 12th-century royal burial site. Nearby Mont Revard has mountain bike, Alpine and cross-country ski trails.
On the eastern shore of France’s largest freshwater lake, Aix-les-Bans is a chic Savoy resort that radiates old-world glamour. In the 19th century the lake, mountains and curative waters contributed to one of Europe’s most fashionable destinations.
Kings, queens, dukes, maharajas and counts all descended on the resort, and opulent art nouveau palace hotels were built for them. Aix-les-Bains still resonates with this mystique, and is a luxurious home from home for people embarking on mountain hikes, cross-country skiing or watersports on the lake’s glassy waters.
Aix-les-Bains is on the east shore of the largest natural lake in France. Unlike many French lakes there’s no complete perimeter trail, and that’s because the mountains on the west shore plunge almost vertically to the water, which adds to the drama of the place.
But you can ramble to some remote spots to find hides where you can watch the lake’s waterfowl and raptors. In summer you could have a dip these glacial waters at one of Aix-les-Bains’ three sandy beaches, while the marina can be your hub for water-skiing, diving and sailing.

Annecy, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France - Venice of the Alps
Annecy is the largest city of Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in southeastern France. It is an alpine town, where the River Thiou meets Lac d’Annecy. It lies on the northern tip of Lake Annecy, 35 kilometers south of Geneva. It’s known for its Vieille Ville (old town), with cobbled streets, winding canals and pastel-colored houses. Overlooking the city, the medieval Château d’Annecy, once home to the counts of Geneva, contains a museum with regional artifacts such as Alpine furniture and religious art, plus a natural history exhibit.
Nicknamed the Pearl of French Alps in Raoul Blanchard's monograph describing its location between lake and mountains, the city controls the northern entrance to the lake gorge.
Switching from counts of Geneva’s dwelling in the 13th century, to counts of Savoy’s in the 14th century, the city became the capital of the Savoy province in 1434 during the prerogative of Genevois-Nemours until 1659. Its role increased in 1536, during the Calvinist Reformation of Geneva, while the bishop took refuge in Annecy. St Francis de Sales gave Annecy its role of advanced citadel of the Catholic Counter-Reformation. The annexation of Savoy will link the city to France in 1860.
Sometimes called Venice of the Alps, this idyllic and touristic representation comes from its two canals and the Thiou river lying through the old city and whose initial role was to protect the city and to empower its handicrafts. The city experienced an industrial development in the 19th century with silk manufacturing. Some of its industrial legacy remains today within the head offices of NTN-SNR bearings, Salomon, Entremont and Dassault Aviation.
Since the end of the 19th century, Annecy has developed as a tourist center with the proximity of the lake, winter resorts and the renovation of its castle, inaugurated with the opening of its fine art museum in 1956. The municipal environmental policy managed to keep 40.3% of green spaces and the city and was awarded the Golden Flower in 2015, given to the nine most-flowered French cities. Since 1960 Annecy has been the organiser of the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, hosted at the Bonlieu Cultural Centre. It has also been a growing educational center since the establishment of the University of Savoy in 1973.
France Travel Guide - Historic Town of Annecy
Take a tour of Historic Town of Annecy in France -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
There are few towns that match the lakeside Annecy, in eastern France.
The waters of the lake stream through the town at various points.
These small canals give it a tranquil atmosphere, somewhat similar to Italy's Venice.
Not only is Annecy beautiful, it has many historical sites, like the Palais d'Isle.
The town also contains a castle, cathedral, basilica, and a bishop's palace.
Over 3,000 years old, Annecy has seen much and is eager to share her rich and long history.

Venice Italy In One Minute, It's All You'll Need
Thinking of visiting the idyllic city of Venice Italy?
Maybe just watch this one minute video and call it a day instead. We knew going into Venice that it was known to be a giant tourist trap. What we didn't imagine was the ridiculous amount of people....everywhere..... Buses, Boats, Gondolas, you take your pick.
Sure, its a neat town in the way its designed with the waterways and boats coming and going constantly. However, if you have the slightest intolerance to crowds, do yourself a favor and sit this town out. Rather we'd suggest maybe visiting Annecy France (The Venice of The Alps) This is a much more enjoyable town, with a fraction of the people and the water is actually clean.....
Fellow travelers have often told us that people either love Venice or hate it.... After our crammed in like sardines bus ride from just outside the city and into Venice proper, we immediately noticed the four cruise ships docked. At this moment we knew it would be a zoo and it was nothing less. We have also been told that the city is a lot more tolerable and even fun at night when the cruisers return to their ships. Maybe this is true, but we never made it past 7pm in the city, because 5 hours was more than enough for us. We even tried returning a second day early in the morning to beat the crowds, but this surely didn't help, I guess everyone was on that plan as well.

My Trip to France: Annecy!
My final France travel video, featuring the International Annecy Animated Film Festival! I had a blast and I hope to go again, perhaps as a creator. :)
Again, apologies for the lack of animations, but I'm fairly busy. I am creating every day and I hardly have free time for myself. Thank you for sticking around. ♥
