Élu village préféré des français et comptant parmi l’un des Plus Beaux Villages de France, Saint-Cirq-Lapopie est un village médiéval classé, qui abrite 13 monuments historiques. Laissez-vous porter au gré des ruelles, prenez les chemins de traverses, regardez vers le ciel, scrutez l’horizon... Il y a toujours un secret à découvrir, un joyau à admirer. The Le Puy Way also known as Via Podiensis or Chemin du Puy in French, starts in the spectacular town of Le Puy-en-Velay, in central France. It follows the GR65 trail and is the most popular of the Camino de Santiago routes in France. Both the Geneva Way and the Cluny Way join the Le Puy route at Le Puy-en-Velay. The Le Puy Camino route is a superb hike taking in stunning countryside and some of the most beautiful towns in France. The volcanic landscapes of Velay, the peaceful Aubrac plateau, the beautiful towns of Conques, Cahors and the Lot Valley, the splendid vineyards of Armagnac brandy and the outstanding Pyrenees Mountains are some of the highlights on the Le Puy Way. The route joins up with the French Way, the famous, Camino Francés, in Saint Jean Pied de Port, on the French side of the Pyrenees.

The last section of the Le Puy Way, also known as the Via Podiensis, takes pilgrims through the beautiful French Basque countryside. Starting in the market town of Aire-sur-l’Adour, by the river Adour, the Camino de Santiago trail soon leaves the Landes region for the rolling hills, woodlands, lakes and rivers of the French Basque Country. You will notice the change in architecture and also the place names, now written in both French and Basque (Euskera). On parts of the trail you will get great views of the Pyrenees in the distance on a clear day. Along the way, stop at the 13th century castle of Chateau de Mongaston; admire the views from the 16th century walls of Navarrenx and have a rest at Hiriburia’s Stelle de Gibraltar, where all the French Camino routes meet. Crossing the River Laurhibar you will reach the foothills of the Pyrenees and finally enter Saint Jean Pied de Port by the St James Gate. Saint Jean is both the end of the Le Puy Camino route and the starting point of the French Way of the Camino de Santiago, so you will encounter many pilgrims ready to start their journey. It is another 800kms from here to Santiago!
