Belgium: Ooidonk Castle and its park
Ooidonk Castle is a monumental ancient moated castle south of the Belgian village of Sint-Maria-Leerne, not far from Deinze.
A fortress was first built on the site of the present castle in 1230, intended to defend the city of Ghent and to fortify the river Leie.
After its destruction is was rebuilt and enlarged from 1381 onwards. Moats were added, so that the castle could only be reached by drawbridge, and the defences were strengthened with four towers.
In the 15th century the castle came into the possession of the well-known French noble family of Montmorency.
In the turmoil of religious wars the castle was destroyed twice, in 1491 and in 1579. After the fire of 1579 it was rebuilt again, and this building survives as the present castle.
Ooidonk Castle is now privately owned.
The owner has expanded the castle, without prejudice to the playful Flemish Renaissance style. In the 19th century, the interior was renovated and the gardens were redesigned.
Ooidonk Castle is open to visitors since 1958 from 1 April to 15 September, the surrounding park (French gardens) can be visited during the whole year.

MAS Museum aan de Stroom Antwerp Belgium
The Museum aan de Stroom (MAS; Dutch for: Museum by the River) is a museum located along the river Scheldt in the Eilandje district of Antwerp, Belgium. It opened in May 2011 and is the largest museum in Antwerp.
History
In 1998 the Antwerp city council decided to build the museum at the Hanzestedenplaats. On 14 September 2006 the first brick of the building was laid. In 2010 museum objects arrived from various other museums like the Etnographic Museum and the Maritime Museum, which both ceased to exist. The museum opened for the public on 17 May 2011
Design
The 60 metre high MAS was designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects. The façade is made of Indian red sandstone and curved glass panel construction. It is an example of postmodern Art Deco architecture. The MAS houses 470,000 objects, most of which are kept in storage. The first visitor's gallery is the visible store, which contains 180,000 items. The building is located on the spot where the Hanzehuis used to stand. International merchants worked and resided at the Hanzehuis. In the nineteenth century a fire destroyed the building.
Collection and exhibitions
The central focus of the MAS is Antwerp and its many aspects. The main themes are Metropolis, Power, Life and Death, and Antwerp's long history as a major international port. The museum is committed to informing the public using new media. Through the QR codes placed next to most of the exhibits, visitors can access website information in five languages: English, Dutch, French, German and Spanish.

EDEN 2008 - Ath (Belgium) short version
The Belgian destination has an irresistibly beautiful old city centre which plays host to the medieval festival with a masquerade procession of giants and is surrounded by two attractive nature reserves; the Hills and the Slopes of the Escaut.

WIKIPEDIA : Transport fluvial.
