Torrechiara is a frazione of the comune of Langhirano, in the province of Parma, northern Italy. It is especially known for its massive castle, built by Pier Maria II de' Rossi , count of San Secondo, between 1448 and 1460. The building was thought not only as a defensive structure, but also as mansion for the count's lover, Bianca Pellegrini, for which a famous hall, the Camera d'Oro was built with decorations by Benedetto Bembo, sibling of Bonifacio Bembo. Scenes of the 1985 film Ladyhawke were shot at the castle.

The Rocca Sanvitale, or Sanvitale Castle, is a fortress residence in the centre of the town of Fontanellato, near Parma, northern Italy. Construction of the moated block, accessible through a drawbridge, was begun in the 13th century, mostly completed by the 15th century, with embellishments continuing through to the 18th century. It is prototypical of the urban castle-houses of the turbulent medieval communes of Northern Italy. Until the 1930s it was the home of the descendants of the Count of Sanvitale. The crenelated walls and asymmetric towers are surrounded by an arcaded town. Adjacent to the castle are gardens and a courtyard. The optical chamber has an optical system that projects to an inside wall a view of the town through mirrors and a prism. Rocca Sanvitale is now partly a museu...

Waterfall Hike in Amalfi - Valle delle Ferriere

Waterfalls in Amalfi? The Valle delle Ferriere is full of waterfalls and abandoned factories. Waterfalls slide through gothic arches and plunge into pools all the way through the valley. Once a secret this place has now (unfortunately) been 'discovered'

If you want to go there, please wear sensible shoes, take food and water and do not litter.
Once in Amalfi walk up the main street away from the sea and follow the signs to the Valle delle Ferriere.
Or catch a but to Scala, get off at Minuta and walk down from there (see video below for photo indications)

day7a: Amalfi to Ravello

This is our final walk. We started at Amalfi and walked up to the waterfalls in the Valle delle Ferriere National Park. We then walked on to Ravello via the village of Pontone.

Day trip to Capri - Hiking to the Arco Naturale

Come with me for a day in Capri!

We catch the 10am ferry from Positano and on arriving in Capri port we walk up to the town centre, avoiding the crowder Funicular train. Starting in the Piazzetta we walk through the town and follow the signs towards the Arco Naturale (the Natural Arch).

Along the way we spot the newly launched Sailing Yacht A, designed by Phillipe Starck, moored in the bay.

The hike we did is about 2 hours long so remember to bring sunscreen and water!
The cave I knew nothing about is the Grotta Matermania, a large natural cave with the remains of a Roman Nymphaeum inside.

We went for lunch at just off the main square in Capri centre. I highly recommend the Capri picnics that you can book through the website!
