Shiloh National Military Park preserves the American Civil War Shiloh and Corinth battlefields. The main section of the park is in the unincorporated town of Shiloh, about nine miles south of Savannah, Tennessee, with an additional area located in the city of Corinth, Mississippi, 23 miles southwest of Shiloh. The Battle of Shiloh began a six-month struggle for the key railroad junction at Corinth. Afterward, Union forces marched from Pittsburg Landing to take Corinth in a May siege, then withstood an October Confederate counter-attack. The visitor center provides exhibitions, films and a self-guided Auto Tour.

The commanders received national recognition for their victories in February 1862, as they were the first major Union successes of the war. Reelfoot Lake is a shallow natural lake located in the northwest portion of U.S. state of Tennessee, in Lake and Obion counties. Much of it is really more of a swamp, with bayou-like ditches connecting more open bodies of water called basins, the largest of which is called Blue Basin. Reelfoot Lake is noted for its bald cypress trees and its nesting pairs of bald eagles. Public use of the lake and grounds has been preserved since it was acquired by the state of Tennessee in the early 1900s and the area established as Reelfoot Lake State Park. Lake Isom, a similar, smaller lake to the immediate south, has been designated as a National Wildlife Refuge area.

But I’ve spent a lot of time driving all over the United States, including two major road trips of the American West (definitely some of the most scenic drives!), and plenty of other smaller trips, and one thing you begin to realize is that some roads are destinations onto themselves, which is why I put together this post of the most scenic drives in America.

Niagara Falls, Canada Travel Guide - Must-See Attractions

Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between Canada and the United States; more specifically, between the province of Ontario and the state of New York. They form the southern end of the Niagara Gorge.
From largest to smallest, the three waterfalls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls lie on the Canadian side and the American Falls on the American side, separated by Goat Island. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls are also located on the American side, separated from the other waterfalls by Luna Island. The international boundary line was originally drawn through Horseshoe Falls in 1819, but the boundary has long been in dispute due to natural erosion and construction.
Located on the Niagara River, which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the combined falls form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in the world, with a vertical drop of more than 165 feet (50 m). Horseshoe Falls is the most powerful waterfall in North America, as measured by vertical height and also by flow rate. The falls are located 17 miles (27 km) north-northwest of Buffalo, New York and 75 miles (121 km) south-southeast of Toronto, between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York.

Trip to Rogersville 9-19-08. Here we are in Oh, Henry's restaurant, getting a quick bite to eat and trying to figure out if we can afford the meager meal we've ordered. This restaurant is very clean and the items on the menu are extremely reasonable. Highly recommended!

Exploring Abandoned Volkswagen Graveyard - Hundreds of VW Bugs

On this explore, we are headed back to an amazing spot with some friends. Martin & Andy came into town and drove with us to an abandoned VW graveyard. Such a fun spot to visit all year round. Fran and I had been during the winter and it was beautiful. But now that the seasons have changed and summer has brought back a lot of colors to the trees, we decided to go back for another look. Deep in the woods are hundreds of old VW bugs, busses, and other models of cars left vacant and taken over by Mother Nature. We were all very excited to shoot so we wasted no time getting started. After an hour or so of shooting, our trip came to a temporary halt when the owner of the property approached me. He didn't seem very friendly at first. He started to get our info like he was calling the police. But after several minutes, he began to warm up to us and joke with us because he realized we meant no harm. He told us a back story to this location and then left us to continue shooting which was awesome. We all left there with a good amount of photos and were very satisfied with our explore. Andy & Martin left to go shoot the rest of the day as Fran & I headed home. Unfortunately Andy & Martin had their cameras confiscated later that night by police due to a failed explore. So their shots will have to wait until after court.
