Kodagu is an administrative district in Karnataka, India. Before 1956 it was an administratively separate Coorg State, at which point it was merged into an enlarged Mysore State. It occupies an area of 4,102 square kilometres in the Western Ghats of southwestern Karnataka.     Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary The Brahmagiri wildlife sanctuary is located in the Kodagu district, Karnataka state and is part of the Western Ghats. It is situated on the border between Wyanad District of Kerala state on the south and Kodagu District in Karnataka on the north side. It is located at a distance of 243 km from Bangalore. The sanctuary derives its name from the highest point, the Brahmagiri peak, which is 1607m in height. It covers an area of about 181 km. Brahmagiri is about 60 km from Coorg and about 200 km from Bangalore. The area has mainly evergreen and semi-evergreen forest, and in the higher altitudes, there are grasslands with shola forest patches. Bamboos are well represented in these forests.
