Lake Tahoe Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia (4K)
Filled with over 39 trillion gallons of pure Sierra snowmelt and pushed a mile into the Californian and Nevada skies, Lake Tahoe is the USA’s largest alpine lake and one of the country’s oldest, year-round vacation playgrounds.
Lake Tahoe has forever drawn travellers to its shores, from the Native Americans who call this place Big Water, to the trappers, timber cutters and pioneers who followed.
When you’re ready for a little alpine magic, take the four-hour drive from San Francisco to the sunlit shores of Kings Beach. Set on Tahoe’s northern end, this beach was named after local card shark, Joe King, who used his winnings to develop some of the lake’s earliest lodgings. On the lake’s southern shore, is Pope Beach, where you’ll find another Tahoe institution, Camp Richardson.
From Pope Beach follow the bike path to the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. An open-air classroom for the entire family, the center features fabulous interpretative walks such as the Rainbow Trail.
Nearby, at DL Bliss State Park, follow the spectacular Rubicon Trail into neighboring Emerald Bay State Park. This park is home to the Eagle Falls Trail, a moderate two-mile hike that takes in some of the Sierra high country’s finest views.
When the ponderosa pines bend with the season’s first snow, Tahoe transforms into the nation’s favorite winter playground. Whether you’re looking for snow-capped peaks or crystal clear coves, places to bond with loved ones or pockets of pure solitude, The Lake in the Sky has it all.
Chandelier Tree - Drive Thru Tree Park, Leggett, California
The Chandelier Tree is a massive Coastal Redwood tree, age approximately 2000 to 2400 years old, that is situated in Leggett, California. The video features footage of cars...well...driving through the middle of the tree! It's super cool and very unusual - check it out!

A Drive Up The Coast: California 1 Shoreline Highway, All The Way
You could take I-5 or US 101 to get from San Francisco to northern California, but why not kick back and take in all the views, the curves, and the foggy, salty air along the coast? This drive takes you all the way from the Golden Gate Bridge to the end of Highway 1 at Leggett, California. If you're not in the mood for an entire hour-long video, you may want to check out the six-part series of shorter segments, starting here:

A Beautiful West Coast Road Trip (San Diego, CA to Vancouver, BC)
This trip begins in San Diego, but ends in Vancouver. This road trip is the best that can be offered of the west coast, especially of the Pacific Coast Highway. This video includes nearly the entire Pacific Coast Highway, from Dana Point to Leggett, with the exception of the stretch between San Simeon and Lucia due to road closure (because of mud/rock slides). The Pacific Ocean can frequently be seen from San Diego to Southwest Washington; after which, the road trip turns inland through Seattle and then up to Vancouver. I'd wanted to begin this trip in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, but I abandoned the idea when I found out the morning that I began this trip (less than 2 km from the Mexican border) that the border crossing waits were over an hour.
States/province passed through are:
California: (0:00:22-5:53:25)
Oregon: (5:53:25-7:42:25)
Washington: (7:42:25-9:04:30)
British Columbia: (9:04:30-9:14:42)
The highest elevation of this drive is 813 m in Monterey County at N36° 0' 39.1, W121° 27' 21.1 (2:34:59). The lowest elevation is at sea level multiple times throughout this video. With the exception of the detour away from the Pacific Coast Highway in San Luis Obispo and Monterey Counties, the temperatures throughout this trip ranged from 51-63 F (10-17 C) between San Diego and Vancouver. I recorded a temperature of 86 F (30 C0 on US-101 near San Miguel, CA, which is the warmest temperature of this trip.

Day 4 of the real-time drive:
On another note, the Canada/U.S. border crossing of I-5/BC-99 is the busiest of all of the U.S./Canada crossing, but I only had about a 2-minute wait to cross into Canada; But I had a 45 minute wait to cross back into the U.S. just two hours later.

Coast to Redwoods on Cali 1 (and Through a Tree!) Timelapse
This is part 6 of a six part drive that takes you up the California coast on the Shoreline Highway, Cali 1. The entire series begins in San Francisco at the Golden Gate Bridge, and ends at Leggett, where Highway 1 ends at US 101.
This video begins at Fort Bragg and follows Highway 1 up the coast, then inland, to US 101, including a detour through the Chandelier Tree!

Drive-Thru Tree Chandelier Tree World Famous Redwood Forest California National Park Trees Part #2
World Famous Drive-Thru Tree Chandelier Tree Redwood Forest Leggett California National Park We had to visit the Redwood Forest since we were so close. We asked someone how close we were to the famous drive-thru tree and said not far at all so we decided to go see it. I didn't know this but it is on private land that a family has owned since 1922. It's weird because you are driving into it and all you see is normal trees and you wonder if your in the right place then all of a sudden you are in the huge trees. It's pretty amazing and I would recommend visiting if you are ever in the area. The drive-thru tree is called the Chandelier Tree and it is 315 feet tall and 21 feet in diameter and they say it is over 2,400 years old. We had to wait in line to drive through it and there was a BMW going through so I had to get a video of it coming through.
