Kinderdijk is a village in the Netherlands, belonging to the municipality of Molenwaard, in the province South Holland, about 15 km east of Rotterdam. Kinderdijk is situated in a polder in the Alblasserwaard at the confluence of the Lek and Noord rivers. To drain the polder, a system of 19 windmills was built around 1740. This group of mills is the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands. The windmills of Kinderdijk are one of the best-known Dutch tourist sites. They have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

HOLLAND: Scheveningen New Year's Dive 2019 (Nieuwjaarsduik)
Every New Year's Day around 10,000 people dive collectively into the icy cold sea water at Scheveningen, since 1965.
Scheveningen, is one of the eight districts of The Hague (Netherlands), as well as a subdistrict of that city. Scheveningen is a modern seaside resort with a long, sandy beach, an esplanade, a pier, and a lighthouse.
2019: In 131 locations on beaches and in lakes all over the Netherlands, around 50,000 people participated in this Nieuwjaarsduik (English: New Year's dive) at 12:00 AM. The temperature of the water was 7 degrees Celcius (44.6 F) and outside (6 to) 9 degrees (48.2 F); it felt colder due to the wind.
Since 1998, Unox, a Unilever food brand often associated with winter, adopted the Nieuwjaarsduik and ever since it is tradition to wear Unox branded winter caps and gloves.

Solo uno dei mulini è aperto ai visitatori ed offre una visione complessiva dell’antico funzionamento e delle condizioni di vita dei suoi abitanti. Risiedere e lavorare in un mulino, infatti, non era cosa facile: i mugnai avevano famiglie numerose spesso composte da 10 o 12 figli e vivevano, con grandi sacrifici, grazie ai frutti della terra, all’allevamento del bestiame e alla pesca.
In olandese Kinderdijk significa “Diga dei Bambini” e deriva da una leggenda secondo la quale nel 1420, durante una devastante alluvione, una culla contenente un bambino e un gatto, si sia adagiata proprio sulla diga, dopo essere stata trascinata dalla turbolenta corrente.
