Mandya District is an administrative district of Karnataka, India. The district is bordered on the south by Mysore District, on the west by Hassan District, on the north by Tumkur District and on the east by Ramanagar district. The district Mandya was carved out of larger Mysore district in the year 1939. Mandya is called as Sakkare nadu in Kannada means sugar city because sugarcane crop is prominent in the district and the people of Mandya are called as Sakkare nadina akkare janatee means people are most lovely and kindness. Mandya is the main town in Mandya District. As of 2011, the district population was 1,808,680 .

    Tipu Sultan , also known as the Tipu Sahib, was a ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore. He was the eldest son of Sultan Hyder Ali of Mysore. Tipu Sultan introduced a number of administrative innovations during his rule, including his coinage, a new Mauludi lunisolar calendar, and a new land revenue system which initiated the growth of the Mysore silk industry. He expanded the iron-cased Mysorean rockets and commissioned the military manual Fathul Mujahidin, and is considered a pioneer in the use of rocket artillery. He deployed the rockets against advances of British forces and their allies during the Anglo-Mysore Wars, including the Battle of Pollilur and Siege of Seringapatam.
