Trip to Meizhou 梅州 | Summer 2015

A visit to Meizhou 梅州, China where my grandparents and father lived. ☼ such a beautiful place with breathtaking views, delicious Hakka cuisine from farmers family restaurant and splendid Hakka culture ☼


✈45 minute flight from Hong Kong
3 hour drive from Shenzhen
2 hour drive from Shantou

Howard Johnson Changsheng Plaza Meizhou 梅州昌盛豪生大酒店- newly opened 5* hotel with excellent service and delicious and inexpensive food. The staff can speak fluent English, very kind to help and answer all my questions :)

02:18-02:45 Lingguang Temple 靈光寺(靈光古薩) - reputed as one of the four famous temples in Guangdong Province, has been stood there for more than 1,200 years since it first built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907).
02:54-03:03 Songkou township 松口古鎮 - was a bustling port on the Mei river. Stepping on the streets made me felt like travelling back to the past. 松江大酒店 - hundred year old hotel where famous and rich people stayed.
03:14-03:15 Hakka Salted Steamed Chicken 客家鹽雞 - one of my favourite food! Definitely need to try!
03:17-03:25 Five Finger Peak, Pingyuan county 平遠五指石 - one hour spine-chilling walk with striking view of the peak. They even have a nerve-wrecking glass version of the walkway.
03:26-03:36 discovered a beautiful tea mountain on our way to YungDing. Met the lovely tea-farming ladies who asked us to stay and have dinner in their house.
03:38-03:48 Yongding Tulou 永定土樓 - circular configuration surrounding a central shrine built of a composite of earth, sand, and lime. Designated as UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008
03:56-04:08 Meijiang River 梅江河 - approximately 45 minutes river cruise with a lady performing Hakka folk songs

Mum and Dads visit to China

My wonderful parents came to visit myself and my girlfriend in China.

We hit Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Meizhou, Guilin, Yangshuo and Beijing!

Qingyuan China: day 1 at Wonderland and Hakka Village

Qingyuan is about an hour north of Guangzhou and famous for its natural scenery. We took a weekend trip from Hong Kong with a local tour and visited some of its top sights.

Day 1:
Wonderland
Rated as a AAAA attraction by the government, its Chinese name means “Wonderland in the Cave”. It is an open top cave with a river running through it, with a river boat as well as a walking path that goes up near the cave opening. A good way to do it is to walk inside and take the ferry out.

Hakka Village
A small village near the town of Julong from Qing Dynasty - it's well preserved and the locals still live nearby.
