Day 208: Today we’re hiking in the Mt Hutt Forest in the Te Awa Awa Rata Reserve or simply Awa Awa Reserve. There are more things to do on Mt Hutt than the skiing. What’s more, we check out some Methven cafes, as well as the awesome Paradiso Cinema in Methven.

Today we are following local recommendations to check out the Awa Awa Reserve walks at the base of Mt Hutt. It’s one of the awesome things to do in Mt Hutt when the mountain is closed or during summer.
We hit the Mt Hutt walks at the base of Mt Hutt in the Awa Awa Reserve. There are many different tracks ranging from 15 minutes to 2 hours. It’s an awesome example of New Zealand native forest with lots of New Zealand birds like fantails and rifleman.
After our walks at Mt Hutt, we go back into Methven New Zealand and have some lunch at the Arabica Cafe in Methven. Tonight, we check out Cinema Paradiso in Methven which is a New Zealand boutique cinema.

It’s Robin’s birthday! So as a special birthday treat we are doing archery in New Zealand! One of the most stunning archery locations in New Zealand has to be with Newzengland at the Terrace Downs Resort in Windwhistle. This archery activity is located near the little town of Methven New Zealand.
After some birthday celebrations we head to the Terrace Downs Resort and meet Neil from Newzengland who is going to teach us how to sling a bow and arrow in the pine forest. It’s a true Robin Hood experience.
If you’re looking for where to do archery in New Zealand then archery in Methven is worth considering. This archery in the South Island experience is a great place to learn how to do archery while doing some fun challenges. It makes a great thing to do in Methven.

Washpen Falls is a true hidden gem of the Canterbury region and a Canterbury must-do! Washpen Falls is found just outside of Methven and involves and 2-hour loop walk through some of the most diverse landscape and sights in New Zealand.
Washpen Falls is a walk on private land with a small entry fee but it’s worth it to see this rugged volcanic canyon rich in Maori history, native forest, exotic forest, lava caves, lava boulders, birdlife, waterfalls and even a lagoon with a rowing boat. For one of the best walks in the South Island, check out Washpen Falls.
The waterfall is only a small highlight in what is one of the most diverse Methven walks. If you are looking for walks in Methven, Washpen Falls is worth considering.

We’ll be honest. Today we are really struggling to find something to do! We’re bound to hit this wall at some point during our 365 Days: 365 Activities in New Zealand. Nevertheless, we do find a pretty cool thing to do in Ashburton NZ, as we travel between the towns of Geraldine and Methven, and that’s the Ashburton Domain.
The Ashburton Domain is a park in Ashburton with so much to see between duck ponds, bush walks, sports fields, streams and more. We spend an afternoon in the Ashburton Domain getting a feel for what New Zealand city parks are like.
Ashburton is a town just outside the South Island city of Christchurch and along State Highway 1, the main highway in New Zealand, so it could be a great pit stops when travelling the South Island.

There's never any shortage of things to see and do in Rotorua! In this video we visit the excellent Rotorua Bath House museum, the Zorb and the hot pools at Waikite. In our opinion, these are the best thermal pools in the North Island. There are no crowds, noise or so-called entertainment. It's fresh, clean environment with a fantastic walk to see New Zealand's largest boiling spring.
A few days in Queenstown, New Zealand
Spending a few days wandering around the Queenstown area on the South Island in New Zealand. There's no way to capture the beauty of this area on film or in pics, just go there! :)
