The Bay of Islands is an area on the east coast of the Far North District of the North Island of New Zealand. It is one of the most popular fishing, sailing and tourist destinations in the country, and has been renowned internationally for its big-game fishing since American author Zane Grey publicised it in the 1930s. It is 60 km north-west of the city of Whangarei. Cape Reinga, at the northern tip of the country, is about 210 km by road further to the north-west.

10 Waikari to Greta Valley on a Boom Mustang
Filming of todays journey starts 72km north of Christchurch and runs along Scargill Valley Road - a quiet country road that connects the rural townships of Waikari and Greta Valley.
Filmed in mid-September 2016 at the beginning of spring, there's evidence of trees in blossom and the fields have a new flush of green where the lambs frolick - but the trees are still barren of leaves and there is some ice grit on the roads after a recent snow storm.
Greta Valley offers some of the best North Canterbury scenery and a chance to hop off the main State Highway to enjoy a rural ride without traffic.

Sacred New Zealand #4 Weka Pass Maori Rock Paintings
To get to Weka Pass you drive 1 hour north of Christchurch to Waikari. The path follows the old railway west, you will find the beginning a bit up the hill from the takeaway shop and hair dresser. If you follow the signs it takes about 45 minutes up a steep hill. But it's worth the climb.

New Zealand Campervan Holiday 2015 part 2 Woodend Beach to Hanmer Springs
It's an attractive drive from Woodend Beach to Hanmer Springs, with the interest growing as the snow topped mountains draw closer.
Hanmer is never a disappointment. The central feature is the hot springs complex, but there is a list of activities which grows longer each time we go there.

Regenerative brakes
Regenerative braking is an energy recovery mechanism which slows a vehicle or object by converting its kinetic energy into a form which can be either used immediately or stored until needed. In a nutshell, the electric motor is using the vehicle's momentum to recover energy that would be otherwise lost to the brake discs as heat. This contrasts with conventional braking systems, where the excess kinetic energy is converted to unwanted and wasted heat by friction in the brakes, or with dynamic brakes, where energy is recovered by using electric motors as generators but is immediately dissipated as heat in resistors. In addition to improving the overall efficiency of the vehicle, regeneration can greatly extend the life of the braking system as its parts do not wear as quickly.
