Today we are in Geraldine NZ, a Canterbury town in the South Island. It’s just off the main highway of New Zealand, State Highway 1, so makes a perfect pitstop of a South Island road trip or a Canterbury Road Trip. Already, we have done so many things to do in Geraldine NZ, but today we are winding down with one of the short walks in Geraldine within the Talbot Forest.
The Talbot Forest is networked with four 10-minute walks within native New Zealand forest. It’s one of the great bushwalks in New Zealand and bushwalks in the South Island that we recommend, compact with native New Zealand birds and information panels about the Maori history.

Day 208: Today we’re hiking in the Mt Hutt Forest in the Te Awa Awa Rata Reserve or simply Awa Awa Reserve. There are more things to do on Mt Hutt than the skiing. What’s more, we check out some Methven cafes, as well as the awesome Paradiso Cinema in Methven.

Today we are following local recommendations to check out the Awa Awa Reserve walks at the base of Mt Hutt. It’s one of the awesome things to do in Mt Hutt when the mountain is closed or during summer.
We hit the Mt Hutt walks at the base of Mt Hutt in the Awa Awa Reserve. There are many different tracks ranging from 15 minutes to 2 hours. It’s an awesome example of New Zealand native forest with lots of New Zealand birds like fantails and rifleman.
After our walks at Mt Hutt, we go back into Methven New Zealand and have some lunch at the Arabica Cafe in Methven. Tonight, we check out Cinema Paradiso in Methven which is a New Zealand boutique cinema.

ZIPLINE in oldest exotic forests in New Zealand
The Whakarewarewa Forest is one of the oldest exotic forests in New Zealand. The forest is situated just close to Rotorua. You take an unforgettable zip line tour : Zipline canopy tour.
You'll zip down 650m worth of ziplines. There are six ziplines, with the longest one being 220m. During the tour, you can feed native birds. It's really a fascinating New Zealand wildlife experience.
The upper canopy of exotic tree species provides shelter and shade to a kaleidoscope of ferns, shrubs, flowers, and fungi. The understory of mostly native plants is an integral part of the forest eco-system and adds greatly to the scenic value of the forest. Ferns are commonplace in the New Zealand landscape with about 200 native varieties throughout the country. They have evolved into forms that can cope in just about any environment so it is no surprise that one of the most noticeable plants dominating the understory in the Whakarewarewa forest is the fern.

Today we’re doing a New Zealand horse trek and New Zealand Maori experience wrapped up into one on this horse trek in Hawke’s Bay with Out on a Lim. The team are based in Iwitea, just outside of the Hawke’s Bay town of Wairoa. Join us for this awesome day out on the North Island of New Zealand!
