“Let’s start with the most important thing – it’s really cold here in Sweden. I mean really cold!! Not like when it’s really cold in Germany. Today it‘s minus 25 degrees celsius!”
Without transfer - there have been direct flights from Hanover, Hahn, Munich and Stuttgart to destinations in Northern Sweden for 15 years now.
“The flight to Arvidsjaur only takes 21/2 hours.”
In the summer months the sun never seems to set. In winter it only shows 3-5 hours before darkness returns.
During these months it doesn’t stay light for long in Lapland but you’ll be sure to see the Northern Lights.
This result of the interaction between the sun and the Earth’s magnetic fields is visible during 7 out of 10 nights – if the sky is clear!
“This is the Hornavarn, a lake here in Arjeplog. With a depth of 221 metres, it’s the deepest one in Sweden.
In Sweden, Batman used to be called Leather Cloth (= Läderlappen?). They simply translated the name into Swedish. With Tim Burton‘s first Batman film he also was called Batman here.
By the way, the huskies are only loud when standing. As soon as they start running they quiet down.
The object of desire here are prototypes, since Lapland is a testing ground for the automotive sector. Cars test-driven here will only be launched several years from now. Such a photo brings a small fortune.
A small hint for Papparazzi: There are only two petrol stations here!
Twenty percent of all traffic accidents here in Sweden are caused by elks. They can weigh up to a ton and reach a height of two meters.”
All the large reindeer herds in Lapland are “half-wild.” They are often under the care of Lapland’s native inhabitants, the Sami.
“The last wild reindeer disappeared in Sweden in the early 19th century. Today all the reindeers are tame. They are private property. All reindeers have an owner.”

Snow canon in Skellefteå, Swedish Lapland.
A snow canon is a phenomena that occurs when lots of cold air flows out over open sea. The contrast in temperature causes lots of water to evaporate which turn in to clouds and almost instantly produces snow. This happens every once and a while in the region of Skellefteå. This time it fell about 80 centimeters in Skellefteå city and over one meter on some places closer to the coast. It's a good thing, we love snow :)
Lapland 2019
To have a great start for the new year 2019, my mom and I decided to travel to the cold for a change. With the organization 'Xplore the North' we traveled all the way to Lapland, in Tärendö to be precise. We stayed at the Arctic River Lodge and what an amazing experience it was! I have travelled a lot but I have to say, this is one of the best places I travelled to so far! We went dogsledding, we drove with a snow scooter, visited an ice hotel and saw the Northern lights! Yes we were lucky basterds. Hope you enjoy the video.
Fly fishing for Baltic Salmon under the midnight sun - Tornio River, Lapland
Emilie Björkman (SWE) and Sanna Koljonen (FIN) are two admirable ladies who share a great passion for fly fishing. In summer 2017, they spent several days under Lapland's magical midnight sun chasing Baltic salmon. Pello – the fishing capital of Finland and the Tornio River (Europe’s longest freely flowing river) offered many unforgettable memories for these adventurous women.
Pello, a small town on the banks of the Tornio River, is one of the leading salmon fishing destinations in northern Scandinavia. It’s located 20km north of the Arctic Circle in the westernmost part of Finnish Lapland. Sweden lies on the other side of the Tornio River.
In the Tornio River salmon are fished from rowboats and by casting from the riverbanks, and it’s becoming more and more famous among fly fishers too. The salmon fishing season starts in the beginning of June and continues until the end of the August. During summer 2016, around 100 000 salmon migrated up to Pello, and over half of those who purchased a fishing license were rewarded with a salmon.

Pinetree Lodge Särkimukka Kangos Sweden
We had a mini vacation in Swedish Lapland Pine Tree Lodge where we did a lot of activities. The lodge is located on a lake where we went swimming, fishing, rafting, dog walking, bathing, ATV driving, and in the evenings we sat outside and ate good food and watched the midnight sun.
Very Cold Morning Bath. North Sweden
I thought I would keep it family tradition and take the plunge. It was a lot colder than I expected, I did it twice quickly and my feet were numb for an hour. Very very cold but refreshing.
