What the Berlin Wall Looks Like Today Popular East Berlin West Berlin Tourist Site Berlin Germany
What the Berlin Wall Looks Like Today Popular East Berlin West Berlin Tourist Site Berlin Germany At the height of the Cold War the Berlin Wall was over 28 miles long running through the heart of the city. There were dozens of manned guard towers operating 24 hours a day. Plus there were guard dog stations, motorized patrols, camera installations, hidden trip wire machine guns, land mines and more to stop any East Berliner from getting out into West Berlin.
Today after 27 years of time not much of the wall remains intact. There are a few areas left where you can go to see the actual wall. The first one in this video is near the O2 Arena. But the best one to visit is near Mauer Park.
Here you can see the West Berlin side of the wall and also the East Berlin barriers that are still standing. There is an actual Guard Tower that you can see along with a section of the former Death Strip.
There are a number of information posters inside the former Death Strip area you can walk through that tell you the locations of former tunnels and buildings that were used to get East Germans out to West Berlin. Also there are photos of people that were killed by East German Border guards who tried to get out to West Berlin.

Hiking the Bastei Bridge in Bad Schandau, Germany | Saxon Switzerland National Park
Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE!
Hiking Date: August 2017
The Bastei is a rock formation towering 194 metres above the Elbe River in Saxon Switzerland National Park.
Originally the Gals and I ended up right in the smack-middle of the National Park thinking we could get hike to the bridge from there. After a mile or so, we found out it wasn't so.
We actually had to get back on to the train from the Visitor's Center and take it like two stops up to Bad Schandau where it drops you off in this picturesque German town.
From there you must take a ferry to take you to the other side of the town (that is the first clip of the video). The ferry takes literally 5 minutes and it moves incredibly slow. Once you get to the other side of the town, you follow the signs that say Bastei and it is a 45 minute (or so) hike from base to the top.
Once up there it is literally breathtaking. The walk up is not too bad but pretty exhaustive at some points - fret not, there are some great stops along the way where you can just enjoy the pure beauty of nature.
Along the way up you will begin to see the rock formations which just excites you even more and pushes you to not stop. Crazy enough we caught a lot of rain but once it settled, you were able to see the smoke like feature of the cool air hitting the rocks - it was magical.
If you get hungry or want to award yourself with a beer, there are a couple of spots at the very top of the mountain in which you can enjoy a quick bite while enjoying the view.
This was one of the main things I wanted to do when planning my trip to Germany and was so happy once I got to cross it off my list. Hope you all enjoyed!

Video of the annual Heimkinderfahrt of Pirna - an event for children who live in orphanages. The point of the event is to make these children a nice and interesting day by giving them a ride throughout the region (usually around 70 miles/ 110km, can be more or less). Normally there are 2 stops during the tour, one where they prepared something special (e.g. visiting a castle, prepared some activities in a camp or something similar for children) and the 2nd one is a simple break with a smaller event. The bikers come from all around the country. This year 737 drivers and 508 orphans from Germany and the Czech Republic participated at this event.
