Pieology Pizzeria is a Rancho Santa Margarita, California-based pizza chain within the fast-casual dining restaurants category. The first Pieology was opened in March 2011 in Fullerton, California, just a few blocks away from the campus of California State University, Fullerton. After the success of the first location, a second location was opened in nearby Irvine (near the campus of University of California, Irvine) in November 2012. For the first few years, initial growth was restricted to company-owned locations in Southern California.
By October 2014, the company had 35 units in eight states.
In 2015, Pieology was the fastest growing restaurant chain in America, according to data from Technomic.
In March 2016, Pieology expanded into the state of Hawaii, opening a location in Aina Haina with the help of franchise partner Cotti Foods.
In May 2016, Pieology opened its first location outside the continental United states in the city of Tamuning in the American territory of Guam with the help of a local franchise partner.
By October 2018, Pieology had a single unit in Mexico plus approximately 140 units in 23 American states

In San Diego there is a phenomena called June Gloom. June Gloom is a southern California term for a weather pattern that results in cloudy, overcast skies with cool temperatures during the late spring and early summer. June Gloom in southern California is caused by the marine layer effect common to the West Coast, and is enhanced by the Catalina eddy local to southern California. May and June together are usually the cloudiest months in coastal Southern California, and today was a exemplary day for this effect. As I hiked closer to the Pacific Ocean, the sky became increasingly overcast and the lighting conditions for excellent photography eroded. Thus, many of the video clips I shot this weekend weren't as good as they could have been if this location were 5-10 miles inland. The marine layer effect, composed of stratus and/or stratocumulus clouds, is also called May Gray, No-Sky July, and Fogust as it occurs in other months, and is collectively known as Summer Bummer. It can reach 15 miles or further inland to places like Temecula, California overnight, but that is rare. Typically I'll see the June Gloom effect during the day close to the coast, only to look Eastward and see the border where it ends 5-10 miles inland, where it was sunny all day. Thus, when you buy a house in Southern California or a similar climate elsewhere in the world, you should consider that buying too close to the coast and/or too high in hill elevation is actually a bad move, in addition to being twice as expensive as living inland.
