Video Lavaux English
The vineyards in Lavaux are some of the most beautiful and best situated in Switzerland.
With 900 hectares of vineyards, Lavaux is the largest winegrowing district of Switzerland and it offers the best views, terrace for terrace.
3.
The winegrowing district stretches over a distance of 40 kilometres with its pretty villages and towns (Lutry, Villette, Grandvaux, Chenaux, Cully, Riex, Epesses, Chexbres, Rivaz, and St. Saphorin to name a few) on a panoramic position on the banks along the Lake Geneva.
4.
Accompanied by grandiose views of the Savoy Alps and the Lac Léman, walking through Lavaux will become an interesting trip of discovery
5.
Those who want to acquire the local taste should visit one of the charming pubs. The mini restaurants are as typical for Lavaux as the original winegrower villages and the picturesque bank of the Lake Geneva at the foot of its vineyards. For UNESCO, everything was worth an award since 28 June 2007: as world heritage!
6.
The blue-yellow Train des vignes is particularly comfortable which loops from Vevey through the green vines to Puidoux-Chexbres in twelve minutes, where you can sample the things that grow here: taste is possible in almost every cellar.
7.
Here everything follows the default natural rhythm of Lavaux, which casts a spell over young and old alike.
8.
The Bertholod tower which was built roughly around the start of the 14th century, supposedly originally formed a weir system with living quarters and separate buildings.
9.
At the start it was the Romans- Even in the first century after Christ they used the magnificent location of the Lavaux hill in order to cultivate wine. 1000 years later the monks came, who on the one hand cultivated belief and on the other hand carried on the winegrower tradition.
10.
This tradition is carried on today; this vineyard has a variety of different grounds with a varying microclimate: the winegrowers can implement all of their knowledge and produce a rich palette of wines within eight different destinations of origin.
11.
Those who are curious will surely find a traditional producer here and there, an unknown speciality or a cosy wine cellar such as the Maison de Vignerons, a popular meeting point for connoisseurs.
12.
The three suns are spoken of, who regale the terrace shaped vineyard of Lavaux: the fiery and large sun, often described by local residents as Jean Rosset, the reflection from the Lake Geneva and the sun warmth saved from the protective stone walls. All three allow the grapes to ripen and sweeten.
13.
Lavaux does not just have an agricultural meaning but it is also home to countless artists and is a destination for tourists. Countless historical buildings characterise the image of this region.
14.
The Tour de Gourze in Riex, which served as an observational tower earlier on, is a popular excursion destination today. During many days you can enjoy a wonderful view over the entire Lake Geneva.
Get to know this exciting region with history and traditions. Welcome to Lavaux!
