Vienna Old Town - Austria - UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Vienna, Austro-Bavarian: Wean is the capital and largest city of Austria, and one of the nine states of Austria. Vienna is Austria's primary city, with a population of about 1.757 million (2.4 million within the metropolitan area, more than 20% of Austria's population), as well as its cultural, economic, and political centre. It is the 7th-largest city by population within city limits in the European Union. Until the beginning of the 20th century it was the largest German-speaking city in the world, and before the splitting of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in World War I the city had 2 million inhabitants. Today it is second only to Berlin in German speakers.Vienna is host to many major international organizations, including the United Nations and OPEC. The city lies in the east of Austria and is close to the borders of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. These regions work together in a European Centrope border region. Along with nearby Bratislava, Vienna forms a metropolitan region with 3 million inhabitants. In 2001, the city centre was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Apart from being regarded as the City of Music because of its musical legacy, Vienna is also said to be The City of Dreams because it was home to the world's first psycho-analyst - Sigmund Freud. The city's roots lie in early Celtic and Roman settlements that transformed into a Medieval and Baroque city, the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It is well known for having played an essential role as a leading European Music Centre, from the great age of Viennese Classicism through the early part of the 20th century. The Historic centre of Vienna is rich in architectural ensembles, including Baroque castles and gardens, as well as the late-19th-century Ringstrasse lined with grand buildings, monuments and parks.
In a 2005 study of 127 world cities, the Economist Intelligence Unit ranked the city first (in a tie with Vancouver, Canada) for the world's most livable cities (in the 2012 survey of 140 cities Vienna was ranked number two, behind Melbourne). For four consecutive years (2009--2012), the human-resource-consulting firm Mercer ranked Vienna first in its annual Quality of Living survey of hundreds of cities around the world. Monocle's 2012 Quality of Life Survey ranked Vienna fourth on a list of the top 25 cities in the world to make a base within (up from sixth in 2011 and eighth in 2010).
The city was ranked 1st globally for its culture of innovation in 2007 and 2008, and fifth globally (out of 256 cities) in the 2011 Innovation Cities Index, which analyzed 162 indicators in covering three areas: culture, infrastructure and markets.[24] Vienna regularly hosts urban planning conferences and is often used as a case study by urban planners.
Each year since 2005, Vienna has been the world's number one destination for international congresses and conventions. Vienna attracts about five million tourists a year.

Self catering in Austria - St Martin Chalets in Lungau
At St Martin Chalets, we aim to offer the best self-catering in Austria. Unlike the standard 'pick up keys and you're on your own'-style self-catering chalet holiday, we live and work on-site and provide you with support throughout your stay. And while our ten chalets are fully equipped for the most demanding self-catering holidaymakers, we provide many of the things you'd expect from a catered chalet holiday.
We'll stock your cupboards before you arrive, we'll deliver freshly baked bread rolls every morning, we'll arrange your activities on your behalf, most of which are free, we'll lead you on a ski safari or guided hike, we'll loan you equipment and we'll make bookings on your behalf.
As if that weren't enough, we'll also light your fires, arrange your ski school, sort out child care, have your equipment delivered and fitted in your chalet, and even arrange for a hot meal to be prepared for you in your chalet.
We like to think of St Martin Chalets as being the best of both worlds -- the benefits of a catered chalet, with the privacy of self-catering. That means you can dip in and out of our services as much as you like, without ever feeling guilty about missing a meal.
Our chalets sleep between 4 and 14 people and, in all, the resort is almost entirely self-sufficient. Our water comes from a natural spring water and our power comes from our own super-efficient vegetable oil power plant.
As a St Martin Chalets resident, you'll have access to all our facilities, including sauna, gym, recreation/cinema room and relaxation area, all of which you'll find only a few steps away from your chalet. In the summer, there's also a sunbathing area and natural swimming pond, which doubles up as an ice bath during winter!
About 70% of our guests come back year-after-year, and we're easy to reach - only one hour's drive from both Salzburg and Klagenfurt airports.
If you fancy experiencing a truly authentic Austrian way of life, where people wear lederhosen and you can hike to mountain huts where they make their own bread, butter and cheese, come and give St Martin Chalets a try. You'll find things here that you simply experience find anywhere else. That's just one of the reasons why UNESCO designated this area as an official Biosphere Reserve - something the people here are most proud of.

An amazing scenic trainride through the snow by train in Switzerland from the car free ski village Zermatt to mount Gornergrat. From the Gornergrat there is an spectaculair view over the swiss alps upon mount Matterhorn and the Monta Rosa Massif and the Gorner Glacier. The narrow gauge tracks of the Gornergratbahn (The Matterhorn Railway) are aroud 9 kilometres long and from Zermatt you’ll pass the stations Findelbach, Riffelalp, Riffelberg and Rotenboden before it will arrive on Gornergrat at 3089m. Ski Chalet in Austria, Lungau - Austrian Alpine Ski Holidays
Chalet Erle is a ten-bed self-catering chalet, making up part of eco-friendly ski resort, St Martin Chalets. St Martin Chalets is located in Austria's little-known Lungau region - approximately halfway between Salzburg Airport, to the north, and Klagenfurt Airport, to the south. It was Austria's first eco-tourism ski destination and is still a very unique place to stay and ski.
Only 5 minutes' walk from the slopes and ten minutes from the town centre of St Michael I'm Lungau, Chalet Erle is ideal for groups of friends, families and couples. Don't worry if you're a small group - we offer special rates for smaller parties - although our ten-bed chalets accommodate ten adults comfortably.
Chalet Erle, like the rest of the buildings at St Martin Chalets, is a traditional Austrian chalet design but equipped with underfloor heating, triple glazing, sheep's wool insulation, making it extremely warm and cosy. Visitors also have free access to wireless Internet, a shared sauna, gym, our selection of books and DVDs and, for those who are brave enough, are welcome to have a dip in our pond, which we keep free of ice for those who believe in taking an ice bath with their sauna.
The fully fitted kitchen is hand-built from 300-year-old larch with granite work surfaces and features a dishwasher, oven, grill and hob, as well as a complete supply of pots, pans, cutlery, crockery and drinking glasses. For those of you who don't particularly want to cook, we offer a variety of catering and food delivery options, as well as stocking your fridge and cupboards prior to your arrival.
The bedrooms all come with fluffy towels and crisp cotton bedlinen and boast breathtaking mountain views In addition the master bedroom has an en-suite and its own private balcony, This chalet also boasts a converted loft space, which is a haven for teens and can sleep up to 4 extra people.

Pichlern to Nockalmstraße - The North Toll Booth L267 -L19.mov
Anyone travelling from the direction of Tamsweg, Mauterndorf or Sankt Michael Im Lungau and intending to visit Nockalmstraße and the Nockalm National Park from the North Toll Booth could do a lot worse than take this route as an alternative to the A10/B99.
Mostly a mixture of long straights and sweeping bends through forest and open ground with pleasant views on a narrowish road. It is a shade under 20km and passes through very little habitation. Make sure you fill up your tank before you get there because if you are passing through Nockalm National Park you will not find a petrol station for over 60km. On the whole the road surface is very good with the odd cattle grid along the way. However, there is a very bad section of tarmac at Schonfeld where you cross from Steiermark to Corinthia and lasts for several kilometres. No problem on an adventure bike but can be uncomfortable on a sports bike. No other hazards to note but just be aware of tree felling and the associated logging lorries at certain times. I have used this section of road very early in the season when Nockalmstraße has still been been closed and have had no problems. Sorry for the interference on the video, the camera was playing up
