Zell am Ziller in Summer 2018 [Alps, Zillertal arena] - Travel Austria
Zell am Ziller is a municipality in the Schwaz district in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The name derives from the river Ziller.
The Zillertal Arena was formed in 2000 from a merger of the ski areas of Zell, Gerlos and Königsleiten and is the largest ski area in the Ziller valley. It is accessed by the Rosenalmbahn and, since the 2010/11 season, by the Karspitzbahn, whose valley station is located in the parish of Zell. Several ski bus companies operate in Zell am Ziller during the skiing season. When there is sufficient snow, cross-country skiing trails are cut at Ziller (both classic and, in some cases, skating).

Der wunderbare Ort, Zell am See ist von einer fantastischen Bergkulisse umgeben. Die Schmittenhöhe der Hausberg von Zell am See bietet den Drachenfliegern wunderbare Flugmöglichkeiten.
Zell am See liegt eingebettet in den der Alpen, im Norden ist die Talfurche der Salzach, südsüd-westlichca. 60 km Luftlinie liegt dieLandeshauptstadt Salzburg, bis Insbruck sind es ca. 100 km in östlicher Richtung bis zum Großglockner sind es 30 KM. das Talbecken von Zell am See stellt die Verbindung zwischen dem Saalach Tal und dem Salzachtal her. Der Zeller See ist ca 4 Km lang und ca. 1 Km breit und ca. 68 Meter tief. Der Altstadtkern von Zell im Westen Westen und die Stadtteile Thumersbach, Erlberg und Schüttdorf grenzen auch direkt an den See.
Im Süden geht das Becken über in das Salzachtal, nördlich ist es durch eine Tal Wwasserscheide vom Saalfeldener Becken getrennt, der hier entstandene Talraum gehört zu den größten inneralpinen Talbecken. Die Schieferalpen, die Hundsteingruppe, die Dientener Berge, auch Salzburger Schieferalpen genannt, die Schmittenhöhe, die Kitzbühler Alpen, auch Tiroler Schieferalpen genannt liegen auch nicht weit entfernt. Die Schieferberge, die auchPinzgauer Grasberge genannt werden, haben sanfte Grate und sind bewaldet. Im Süden liegt das Kitzsteinhorn 3.203 m ü. A der hoher Tenn 3.368 m ü. A., das Imbachhorn und die schroffen, kahlen Kalkstöcke des Steinernen Meeres und die Steinberge und die Nördlichen Kalkalpen
Ursprünglich lag der Zeller See weiter in den Norden wo es früher große Sumpfgebiete gab , bis zum Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts trockengelegt wurden. Der See hat die Form einer Erdnuss und bedeckt eine Fläche von ca. 4,7 km².
Die Schmittenhöhe ist der Hausberg von Zell am See ist die Schmittenhöhe und ist 1965 m ü. A. hoch.), ein bekannter Berg der Grauwackenzone (auch Grasberge genannt), heutzutage wird hier hauptsächlich Wintersport gemacht. Der Hundstein, der Hausberg von Thumersbach, hat eine Höher von 2.117 m ü. A. ist in den Salzburger Schieferalpen die höchste Erhebung. Überwiegend Wald ist in diesen Bergen vorzufinden, aber auch landwirtschaftlich genutzte Almregionen sind hier zu finden. Alles ist durch Hütten und Schigebiete und Wanderwege für den Tourismus erschlossen worden.
