San Miguel de Urcuquí Canton, or Urkuki, is a canton of Ecuador, located in the Imbabura Province. Its seat is the town of Urcuquí. Its population in the 2001 census was 14,381 and was 15,671 in the 2010 census. The area of the canton is 779 square kilometres . San Miguel de Urcuquí is located in the Andes of northern Ecuador. The town and parish of Urcuqui had a population of 4,499 in 2000 and 5,205 in 2010 and has an elevation of 2,295 metres above sea level. The town is located about 9 kilometres in straight line distance northwest of the city of Ibarra, the capital of Imbabura province.

Homage to the Children - Cotacachi, Ecuador

During the annual Fiestas del la Jora, the town of Cotacachi, Ecuador sponsored a Homenaje del las Ninas or Homage to the Children. They brought nearly 1000 children together for an afternoon of games, entertainment and just plain fun. A group of Expats volunteered their time to create and run games for the children.

Loja to Cuenca by bus

A bus trip in southern Ecuador. Leaving Loja at 10:30 a.m., on February 27, 2013, I arrived in Cuenca at 3:30 p.m.the same day. Cost of the seat $7.00. Loja is just under 7,000 feet above sea level. Cuenca is 8,300 feet a.s.l. Between the two places the highway climbs to well over 10,000 feet a.s.l. for much of the trip. The highway was mostly concrete and all of it was two lanes wide. This is part of E35 which is also know here as the Panamerican Highway.
