This is Las Canteras Beach - Gran Canaria

Las Canteras beach on Gran Canaria is one the best urban beaches in the world. Las Canteras is located at the heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and it is easy to get to.

The beach of Las Canteras or Playa de Las Canteras is about 3.1 km long and 50m wide depending on the tide. The beach in itself has different sections with names so it is easier to meet people since Las Canteras beach is quite long.

La puntilla is where Las Canteras starts. There you can find some restaurants and many locals from its neighbourhood La Isleta. The other end of Las Canteras beach is called Las Cicer which seems a totally different beach for its black sand.

A distinctive feature about Las Canteras beach is a long rock about 50 meters away from the beach depending on the tide called La Barra. It stops waves from coming in and makes it possible for a wide variety of fishes to live around the ‘bar’ or La Barra. By the end of La Barra is where the section named Las Cicer starts.

There is also a long walkway that goes around the whole beach where you can find many restaurants, literally one after another for almost the whole way. There are also some hotels and apartments all along the beach.

Las Canteras is the best beach of Las Palmas and one of the most iconic places of Gran Canaria. Due to its great weather conditions you can go swimming at anytime of the year, in fact it is hard to see Las Canteras empty anytime of the year except if it’s raining of course.

Las Canteras is usually very calm because of La Barra but at Las Cicer there are waves all year round which makes it a great spot to surf and bodyboard.
