Places to see in ( Imola - Italy )
Imola is a town and comune in the Metropolitan City of Bologna, located on the river Santerno, in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. The town is traditionally considered the western entrance to the historical region Romagna. The city is most noted as the home of the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari which formerly hosted the Formula One San Marino Grand Prix (the race was named after the nearby independent republic of San Marino, as Monza already hosted the Italian Grand Prix), and the deaths of Formula One drivers Ayrton Senna (Brazilian) and Roland Ratzenberger (Austrian) at the circuit during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. The death of Senna (three-times world champion) was an event that shocked the sporting world and led to heightened Formula One safety standards.
The city was anciently called Forum Cornelii, after the Roman dictator L. Cornelius Sulla, who founded it about 82 BC. The town was an agricultural and trading centre, famous for its ceramics. The name Imola was first used in the 7th century by the Lombards, who applied it to the fortress (the present Castellaccio, the construction of which is attributed to the Lombard Clefi), whence the name passed to the city itself. According to Paul the Deacon, Imola was in 412 the scene of the marriage of Ataulf, King of the Visigoths, to Galla Placidia, daughter of Emperor Theodosius the Great. In the Gothic War (535–552), and after the Lombard invasion, it was held alternately by the Byzantines and barbarians.
Alot to see in Imola such as :
Rocca Sforzesca (Sforza Castle), built under the reign of Girolamo Riario and Caterina Sforza. Now houses a Cinema d'Estate which shows films in July and August. It also is the location of the world-famous International Piano Academy Incontri col Maestro, founded in 1989 by Franco Scala.
Palazzo Tozzoni (Tozzoni's Mansion), built between 1726 and 1738 by the architect Domenico Trifogli, civic art museum since 1981.
Duomo (cathedral), dedicated to San Cassiano. Erected from 1187 to 1271, it was repeatedly restored in the following centuries, until a large renovation was held in 1765–1781. The façade dates to 1850.
Convento dell'Osservanza, including the church of San Michele from 1472, to which later a convent with two cloisters was added. It houses a sarcophagus of Lucrezia Landriani (1496), mother of Caterina Sforza. The interior has a nave and an aisles, finished in 1942; it houses a fresco attributed to Guidaccio da Imola (1472). In the apse is a Byzantine-style crucifix from the 15th century. The first cloister, dating to 1590, had originally 35 frescoes of stories of St. Francis, 15 of which went lost. In the garden annexed to the church is a precious Pietà in terracotta of late-15th century Bolognese or Faenza school.
The Acque Minerali Park, located next to Santerno river, on the hills of the city. The park was created in the beginning of the 20th century; the discovery of the mineral water occurred in 1830
The Tozzoni Park, located on a big hilly area on the side of the city; it became a public area in 1978. The Tozzoni family bought the park in 1882 and used it as a hunting reserve, naming it Parco del Monte (Italian: Park of the Mountain).
Other buildings include the Farsetti and the Communal palaces. In the latter is a fresco representing Clement VII and Charles V (1535) passing through the city. The public library was established in 1747 by the Conventual Padre Setti. In the 16th century, the Accademia degli Industriosi flourished.

Valle d'Aosta - The Aosta Valley in Italy - 4K Aerial Drone Video
The Aosta Valley (Italian: Valle d'Aosta is a mountainous autonomous region in northwestern Italy. It is bordered by Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France, to the west, Valais, Switzerland, to the north and by the Metropolitan City of Turin in the region of Piedmont, Italy, to the south and east.
Covering an area of 3,263 km2 (1,260 sq mi) and with a population of about 128,000 it is the smallest, least populous, and least densely populated region of Italy. It is the only Italian region that is not sub-divided into provinces (the province of Aosta was dissolved in 1945). Provincial administrative functions are provided by the regional government. The region is divided into 74 comuni.
Italian and French are the official languages, though much of the native population also speak Valdôtain, a dialect of Arpitan (Franco-Provençal), as their home language; about half of the population can speak all three languages.
The regional capital is Aosta.
In the Middle Ages, the Aosta Valley was a compulsory passage towards Alpine passes. Thus, toll collections were an important source of power and income. Since the Aosta Valley wasn't directly controlled by any authority, it was easy to take the land and appoint yourself as its lord; therefore, local nobles moved away from the towns, in search of land where they could extend their domains. Castles, towers and fortified houses arose on unaccessible elevations to dominate vast stretches of land from above.
In the Aosta Valley, first castles date back from the beginning of the XI century; often they were built on previous fortified settlements. They consisted in a square tower, or donjon, surrounded by walls. Typical examples of fortifications from the 11th and 12th century are Graines Castle in Brusson, the castle of Cly in Saint-Denis and Châtel-Argent castle in Villeneuve. Their chapels show the extreme simplicity of Romanesque religious architecture.
Cosmopolitan Breuil-Cervinia (2,050 m asl) is the undisputed ski capital. In fact the winter season lasts a long six months (the longest season in Aosta Valley) and in summer it is possible to ski on the Plateau Rosà glacier (3,500 m asl). Modern fast lift systems means ski connections also with Valtournenche and Zermatt (Switzerland) and these resorts make up the “Cervino Ski Paradise”, a snow paradise. The resort’s ski story started 80 years ago with the first cableway Cervinia-Plan Maison (inaugurated in 1936). The area was an already famous mountaineering hub from 1865 with the first ascent of the Matterhorn.
In Cervinia everything is in walking distance, including the lift systems and means you can leave your car in the garage during your stay. The town is made up of residential homes and modern hotels, many with wellness centres, offering guests relaxation and memorable moments. Numerous after ski ideas from shopping to pre-dinner drinks with tastes of local produce, Alpine Guide’s museum visits and dinner of local gastronomical fair in the many restaurants. Don’t miss summer; hiking, mountain biking, mountain huts and the Matterhorn reflecting in the famous blue lake.

Why a rafting vacation on the Dora Baltea is Italy's best kept secret
Nestled in the Italian Alps beneath the shadow of Mont Blanc is the incredible Dora Baltea River. The watershed drains the crest of the Alps from Gran Paradiso in the south to the glaciers on the Crest of the Alps near Monte Bianco in the west, to the Matterhorn on the Swiss border in the north of the region known as the Aosta Valley. The river is a combination of snow and glacial melt shifting from crystal blue waters in the spring to deep turquoise in the late summer and fall. Numerous short Class II to Class V sections are nestled in this amazing valley. Rapids are a great mix of big water features and technical gorges at lower water. The river is also very continuous in nature and guides have a strong emphasis on teamwork and safety boaters.
