Augsburg, Bavaria is one of Germany’s oldest cities. The varied architecture in its center includes medieval guild houses, the 11th-century St. Mary's cathedral and the onion-domed Sankt Ulrich und Afra abbey. Key Renaissance buildings are the Augsburger Town Hall with its Golden Hall. The Fuggerhaüser is the seat of a wealthy banking dynasty and the Fuggerei is a 16th-century social housing complex.
The largest city on the Romantic Road (and Bavaria's third largest), Augsburg is also one of Germany’s oldest, founded by the stepchildren of Roman emperor Augustus over 2000 years ago. As an independent city state from the 13th century, it was also one of its wealthiest, free to raise its own taxes, with public coffers bulging on the proceeds of the textile trade. Banking families such as the Fuggers and the Welsers even bankrolled entire countries and helped out the odd skint monarch. However, from the 16th century, religious strife and economic decline plagued the city. Augsburg finally joined the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1806.
Shaped by Romans, medieval artisans, bankers, traders and, more recently, industry and technology, this attractive city of spires and cobbles is an easy day trip from Munich or an engaging stop on the Romantic Road, though one with a grittier, less quaint atmosphere than others along the route.
Augsburg lies at the convergence of the Alpine rivers Lech and Wertach and on the Singold. The oldest part of the city and the southern quarters are on the northern foothills of a high terrace, which emerged between the steep rim of the hills of Friedberg in the east and the high hills of the west. In the south extends the Lechfeld, an outwash plain of the post ice age between the rivers Lech and Wertach, where rare primeval landscapes were preserved. The Augsburg city forest and the Lech valley heaths today rank among the most species-rich middle European habitats.

Bobingen is a town in Bavaria, Germany. It lies on the rivers Wertach and Singold, on the edge of the Augsburg-Westliche Wälder Nature Park, in Augsburg District, some 13 km south of Augsburg itself
Camping Jungholz, Austria
Jungholz is a sub Alpine village of some 300 inhabitants in what is effectively an Austrian exclave within Germany located at around 1050 metres. The campsite is around 200 metres from the German border and offers hill and mountain views all round with excellent cycling trails into both the Bavarian-Swabian Allgäu and the Tannheim Valley (Tannheimer Tal) in the Tyrol. To the south of the campsite is the 1638 m high Sorgschrofen mountain - it is at the peak that two Austrian and two German borders meet..
The campsite was set up in 1977 and is still run by the grand daughter of the founder with her partner. Many of the residents are long term and the amount of sites for motorhomes is limited, furthermore vehicles over 850cm would have difficulty in parking here.
The shower block is very clean and large for the size of the campsite. There is a chemical water dump where grey water can also be dumped.

Da Frankenmuda Fratz'n German-American dance group
This dance performance was at the main tent in Zehnder Park, during the Bavarian Festival in Frankenmuth, Michigan June 8-11, 2017. This is a long-established festival, which in 2017 was in its 59th year. It was founded by William TIny Zehnder who also founded the Bavarian Inn Lodge. He played an important role in the development of Frankenmuth as a popular tourist destination and with the Bavarian architectural theme that was adopted by the local business community. It is a nice, clean and beautiful town with a lot of charm, that reminds a person of being in the German or Swiss Alps.
There is a lot of authentic German culture in Frankenmuth, with real Weißbier (natural wheat beer with the nutritious yeast still in it), bratwurst and much more at the festivals and also a great Oktoberfest. It offers more value than far away places like the Caribbean where many people still go. There are a lot of interesting local vacation places in the Great Lakes region.

Frankenmuth, known as MIchigan's little Bavaria was founded in 1845 by Lutheran immigrants and missionaries from Franconia. This is the northern part of Bavaria - the land of the Franks - Frankenland in German. It is a region that has a lot of very beautiful old towns and cities, with midieval architecture and many old half timbered Fachwerk houses - known as Tudor style in English.
