Wetumpka is a city in and the county seat of Elmore County, Alabama, United States. At the 2010 census the population was 6,528. In the early 21st century, Elmore County, long a rural area, became one of the fastest-growing counties in the state. The city is considered part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Area. Fort Toulouse , also called Fort des Alibamons and Fort Toulouse des Alibamons, is a historic fort near the city of Wetumpka, Alabama, United States, that is now maintained by the Alabama Historical Commission. The French founded the fort in 1717, naming it for Louis-Alexandre de Bourbon, comte de Toulouse. In order to counter the growing influence of the British colonies of Georgia and Carolina, the government of French Louisiana erected a fort on the eastern border of the Louisiana Colony in what is now the state of Alabama.

The park includes several peninsulas, including Rodman's Neck, Tallapoosa Point, and the former Hunter and Twin Islands. Talladega Superspeedway, formerly named Alabama International Motor Speedway , is a motorsports complex located north of Talladega, Alabama. It is located on the former Anniston Air Force Base in the small city of Lincoln. A tri-oval, the track was constructed in 1969 by the International Speedway Corporation, a business controlled by the France Family. The track currently hosts the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and Camping World Truck Series. Talladega is the longest NASCAR oval with a length of 2.66-mile-long like the Daytona International Speedway, which is 2.5-mile-long . The peak capacity of Talladega is at around 175,000 spectators, with the main grandstand capacity currently being at about 80,000.

Fort Conde in Mobile Alabama

The current Fort Condé, located in Mobile, Alabama is about 1/3 of the original fort recreated in 4/5-scale, opened on July 4, 1976 as part of Mobile's United States bicentennial celebration.

Originally founded in 1702 at 27-Mile Bluff up river, Mobile was relocated in 1711 to the current site where a temporary wooden stockade fort was constructed to protect the town. It was named Fort Louis after the old fort up river. In 1723, construction of a new brick fort with a stone foundation began. Renamed Fort Condé in honor of King Louis XIV's brother.

Wagon Train Rondezvous 2013 at Lake Tahoe

I went out to the 64th annual Wagon Train rondezvous at Zephyr Cove Resort to talk to some of the interesting people who put on the annual wagon train from Lake Tahoe to Camino, CA. Featured interviews include Davy Doc Weiser (1:18), the doctor in the wagon train, plus a wagon master Matthew Shug on how the wagon train affects the horses (2:50) and former Wagon Train organizar Sharon Bass on the history of the highway 50 wagon train association (4:51).
