Apgar Campground, Glacier National Park, Montana Campsite Photos
Apgar campground is the largest campground in Glacier National Park. It is near Apgar Village, where you will find the Apgar visitor center, gift shops, a camp store, and a casual restaurant. Horseback ride reservations, boat rentals, a shuttle service, and Red Bus tour reservations are also located in Apgar Village.
The campground itself is situated in trees and provides tent and RV campers with shade and some privacy. Potable water is accessible in the campground, and restroom facilities provide flush toilets and sinks with running water. Evening sunsets on Lake McDonald are only a short stroll from the campground, and you won't want to miss evening programs at the Apgar Amphitheater with a ranger.

Apgar Campground in Glacier National Park near West Glacier Montana is the largest campground in Glacier National Park. With a flat topographer and simple loop setup with large easy to access pull thru sites the campground is a popular destination for both RVs and tent campers. All of the loops (A-E) are nearly identical (E is for groups only) with paved roads and dirt parking pads. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring.
25 sites can accommodate up to a 40 foot RV or truck and trailer combination.
As with all the campgrounds in Glacier National Park there is a huge shortage of bear boxes (food storage) that coincides perfectly with a growing population of bears (insert sarcasm: we don't see this ending badly in the future). It is up to you to be bear aware. Properly store and handle your food and scented items.
Water spigots, flush toilets, sinks, and dish cleaning sinks available throughout the various loops. Multi-use trails, hiking trails and easy access to Apgar Village and Lake McDonald make this a convenient and popular camping destination. A dump station is available near the entrance.
The Apgar Visitor Center is a short walk from this campground where park guests can ride the free park shuttle along the entire Going to the Sun Road.
Apgar Campground accepts reservations and they are recommended during the peak season. Lake McDonald allows private motorboats and a launch ramp is nearby. Also kayakers and canoeists enjoy the lake for flat water paddling.
Restaurants and groceries are a short distance away. In addition Verizon cell and data coverage is good in this location.

Top Things to See at Glacier National Park | 10K-mile Road Trip Vlog 47
Here are the top 5 things to do and see in Glacier National Park, Montana, from driving along the Going-to-the-Sun Road to the best hikes and seeing waterfalls and wildlife along the way. See below for more details:
1. Going-to-the-Sun Road
This is a 50-mile road that crosses the park and has epic views almost the entire way. It takes the term scenic highway to a level you never thought possible. Lots of turnoffs along the way to stop for pictures. The road is covered in snow and impassible for most of the year. It is usually only open from late June/early July through mid-October. Check the National Park Service page for exact open and close dates:
Even if you don't have time to do any hikes, just driving along this road is worth the trip. We cannot get over how pretty the scenery is.
2. Hike the Highline Trail (at Logan Pass)
The Highline Trail is the most scenic and breathtakingly beautiful trail I've ever been on. The views over the valley below are incredible. The flowers are colorful and gorgeous. And since you start at Logan Pass with an elevation of over 6600 feet, you don't have to do any work to get the amazing views. You may have to get over your fear of heights, but it's totally worth it. DON'T RUN and DON'T WALK BACKWARDS on this trail - two things I did and I can attest that neither one is smart.
3. Hike Hidden Lake (at Logan Pass)
Hidden Lake is a short hike (1.3 miles) from the visitor center at Logan Pass. It's completely exposed to the sun the entire time. It's always busy. Always. You will see mountain goats on this trail. They're everywhere.
4. Sun Point at Saint Mary Lake
About 15 minutes past Logan Pass is Sun Point. There's a large parking lot right there so it's only a 0.1 mile hike out to the point and it's so pretty. You can see so many mountains and you have such a great view over the lake in all directions.
5. McDonald Falls and Lake McDonald
On the north side of Lake McDonald, turn on North Lake McDonald Road and drive for about 2 minutes to the small parking area on your right. You'll see a trailhead for McDonald Creek. That will take you to the waterfall. Look for deer along this trail (we saw two). You can follow the trail out to Lake McDonald too.

Best Documentary 2015 The Great Glacier National Park [HD Documentary]
Glacier National Park is a national park located in the U.S. state of Montana, on the Canada–United States border with the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia.
The park encompasses over 1 million acres (4,000 km2) and includes parts of two mountain ranges (sub-ranges of the Rocky Mountains), over 130 named lakes, more than 1,000 different species of plants, and hundreds of species of animals.
This vast pristine ecosystem is the centerpiece of what has been referred to as the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem, a region of protected land encompassing 16,000 square miles (41,000 km2)
The region that became Glacier National Park was first inhabited by Native Americans. Upon the arrival of European explorers, it was dominated by the Blackfeet in the east and the Flathead in the western regions.
Under pressure the Blackfoot ceded the mountainous parts of their treaty lands in 1895 to the federal government; it later became part of the park. Soon after the establishment of the park on May 11, 1910, a number of hotels and chalets were constructed by the Great Northern Railway.
These historic hotels and chalets are listed as National Historic Landmarks and a total of 350 locations are on the National Register of Historic Places. By 1932 work was completed on the Going-to-the-Sun Road, later designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark, which provided greater accessibility for automobiles into the heart of the park.
The mountains of Glacier National Park began forming 170 million years ago when ancient rocks were forced eastward up and over much younger rock strata. Known as the Lewis Overthrust, these sedimentary rocks are considered to have some of the finest fossilized examples of extremely early life found anywhere on Earth.
The current shapes of the Lewis and Livingston mountain ranges and positioning and size of the lakes show the telltale evidence of massive glacial action, which carved U-shaped valleys and left behind moraines which impounded water, creating lakes.
Of the estimated 150 glaciers which existed in the park in the mid-19th century, only 25 active glaciers remained by 2010.Scientists studying the glaciers in the park have estimated that all the glaciers may disappear by 2030 if the current climate patterns persist.

Driving the Sun Road, Glacier National Park, west to east
“Going to the Sun” Americas MOST PHOTOGRAPHED road in United States. Going-to-the-Sun Road is a scenic mountain road in the Rocky Mountains of the western United States, in Glacier National Park in Montana. The Sun Road is the only road that traverses the Continental Divide through Logan Pass at an elevation of 6,646 feet (2,026 m), which is the highest point on the road. Construction began in July 1921 and was completed in 1932 with formal dedication in the following summer on July 1933. The road is one of the most difficult roads in North America to snowplow.
