7 Creepy Places That You Should Never, Ever Visit
Chernobyl Amusement Park, Ukraine
The Pripyat amusement park is the symbol of the Chernobyl disaster, one of the most catastrophic nuclear accidents the world has witnessed. Opened briefly on April 27, 1986, to entertain the people before announcing the necessary evacuation of the city due to the disaster that had occurred a few kilometres away, the park stands abandoned today, with its Ferris wheel, representing sadness of the incident. To add to the sadness and creepiness, photographers place stuffed toys for snaps.
Beelitz Military Hospital, Germany
The Beelitz-Heilstatten hospital where Adolf Hitler and Eric Hockener were treated after sustaining ailments and injuries during the World War I. The sanatorium remained intact till the World War II. Today, the huge military hospital complex is a deserted place, haunted by the ghosts of the past. The operating tables and beds are rusting away. The vine-covered buildings are empty corridors, with paint peeling of the graffiti-covered walls are a reminder of the fall of the Nazi rule.
The Overtoun Bridge, Scotland
The Overtoun Bridge in Scotland has a Gothic structure with its captivating magnificence. But, there is something creepy about this old bridge. It has a history of more than 600 suicides since the construction of this early 19th century bridge to connect the eastern and western parts of the Overtoun estate. What is even creepier is that, more than 50 dogs have leapt to their deaths from this bridge over a number of decades, raising questions on the chances of animal suicide.
Jatinga, India
Jatinga is redeeming itself as a tourist spot, leaving behind the history of terrorist attacks. But, one of the most mysterious things about the place is the bird suicide ground, where every year, during September and October, hundreds of birds flock to their deaths, particularly between 7pm and 10pm. Disorientation due to altitude, winds speed, fog, weather conditions, etc. could be influencing the birds to behave abnormally to light sources, often provided by locals to trap these birds.
Mo’ynoq, Uzbekistan
The Aral Sea once used to be the fourth largest lake in the world. But, today, it stands shrunken and dried up, due to the cotton plantations started by the Soviet Union as early as the 1940s. As a result, the sea water has evaporated, leaving layers of highly salted sand. Here stand hulks of stranded ships, converting the place into a graveyard of ships. Children play around and camels walk past this cemetery of ships, but, the rusting landlocked ships, alienated in this desert, are indeed chilling.
Xochimilco, Mexico
This Island of the Dolls has to be the creepiest place in Mexico. Santana Barrera, a loner, collected broken dolls and their parts from canals and rubbish tips, and as a tribute to a dad girl he once found, hung them from branches or tied them to trunks to prevent evil spirits, and believed them to walk around the island at night. The hanging dolls with empty eyes, matted hair and scabbed skin, and their decapitated heads and amputated body parts everywhere can give the jeepers.
Candido Godoi, Brazil
This place is weird, but for a completely different reason. It has the birth rate of twins that is 18 percent higher than the rest of the world. The local belief is that this began after Joseph Mengele, the Nazi doctor, started conducting experiments here in the 60’s. Another bizarre theory is that the mineral water in this region is responsible. Many such absurd theories have been refuted by scientists. Immigrants in Sao Pedro could have brought the variant gene here, as per new studies.

Housed in the baroque Zeughaus on Unter den Linden, the Deutsches Historisches Museum (German Historical Museum) tells the story of 2,000 years of German history. Across 8,000 square metres and 7,000 exhibits you can chart the conquests of Charlemagne, uncover Luther's Theses, learn about the origins of the Second World War and get acquainted with German reunification. A chronologically-arranged layout takes you from the early-Middle Ages to the present day. The exhibits shift engagingly between art and everyday objects: paintings of historical scenes sit alongside armour, a vacuum cleaner alongside GDR sheet music.
In 1987, Chancellor Helmut Kohl signs the founding document for the museum on the 750th anniversary of the city. A historical boom creates the right context for such a large project. The Federal Government is confident about the ambitious plan and lays the foundation stone on Berlin's Spreebogen. Then the wall falls and everything changes. The still youthful Deutsches Historisches Museum Foundation receives all relevant collections and moves into the Zeughaus. In 2003, the architectural icon Ieoh Ming Pei designs an additional exhibition hall for temporary exhibitions. The large permanent exhibition through which you pass today opens in 2006. German History in Images and Artefacts encompasses nine eras across two floors, filled to capacity with art and history. Move chronologically through the upper floor, which begins with the Middle Ages. Here you can see a collection of armour, presented in great detail. Then view filigree-embroidered tunics belonging to princes and knights from c.1750. Across the imperial age you can see two-wheeled penny farthings and the very first automobiles.
The tour then takes you to the first floor where you'll find photographs and old election posters from the Weimar Republic. The rooms on the years following 1945 are concerned with the difficult period of reparation. See original CARE packages from the United States and maps of German occupied zones. The tour eventually leads you to an original piece of the Berlin Wall and on through the 1990s. All exhibits in the museum look at historical processes, revolutionary events, and fundamentally, the people behind them. The exhibition offers insight not only into the big stories and epoch-making figures, but also small everyday experiences. Again and again at the Deutsches Historisches Museum you are immersed in the lives of everyday people. You will find alms bowls, women's fashion from the 19th century and even tickets to the Nuremberg war crimes trials.
From the Deutsches Historisches Museum, you can visit the Neue Wache right next door. It is the central memorial site for victims of war and tyranny. The bronze sculpture Mother with her Dead Son by Käthe Kollwitz sits inside, inviting you in for a moment of reflection. Located just a few minutes away you'll find the Forum Willy Brandt Berlin. Here you will learn about the fourth Chancellor, from his days as a young worker in Lübeck to his metamorphosis into a globally-respected statesman. The German Bundestag's art collection holds regularly changing exhibitions, presenting works from the contemporary art scene. About 15 minutes away from the Zeughaus lies the Tränenpalast. Border experiences - life during the division of Germany is the title of its permanent exhibition. The nearby DDR Museum presents the daily life of GDR citizens. Take a simulated Trabi ride and browse cabinets, hear music played on a carat turntable and enter a prefabricated apartment. Berlin City Palace and the new Humboldt Forum are also situated a mere 800 metres away.

There are no trains at the Güterbahnhof Pankow-Heinersdorf, but they used to come here a lot before somebody figured out how to make them drive in the other direction. Yes, this place was built to allow trains to go the different direction and it is one of the only remaining buildings with this history in Germany. Now it is the most relaxed place for a real urban exploration in Berlin. And, if you like this kind of things, you have to go there. Die zwischen 1898 und 1930 von der Landesversicherungsanstalt Berlin errichteten Arbeiter-Lungenheilstätten Beelitz-Heilstätten bilden einen der größten Krankenhauskomplexe im Berliner Umland. Es ist ein denkmalgeschütztes Ensemble von 60 Gebäuden auf einer Gesamtfläche von ca. 200 ha.
Das Video zeigt die Sehenswürdigkeiten der heutigen Anlage, die sowohl parterre im Rahmen einer Führung oder durch einen fantastischen - bis zu 45 Meter in der Luft befindlichen Gehweg - erschlossen ist.
