PATERSON | The Silk City
Paterson, founded in 1791, was one of the first industrial centers in the United States. In 1794 power was harnessed from the falls and drove engineers, entrepreneurs, artisans, and inventors to the city due to this new technology.
By 1870 almost 50 percent of the silk made in the United States was manufactured in Paterson which made the city known as Silk City. In 1933 the silk mills fell victim to the labor strike and have since never recovered.
The city has evolved into a major destination for Hispanic emigrants as well as for immigrants from the Arab and Muslim world. Unfortunately, it also suffers from one of the highest violent crime rates in the nation and has a growing homeless population.

Ten Top Scenic Drives In America: Old Mine Road, Delaware Water Gap
Scenic Drives: Delaware Water Gap - Old Mine Road is one of the oldest Roads in America. One of the original trade routes. This is a road I traveled over the years over and over again, in the spring, fall, summer, and when passable, the winter. Off the road there is two major park systems with beautiful waterfalls, scenic mountain views, eagles, bears *(yep) and plenty of fowl for bird watching enthusiasts, Along the route we pass Walpack and Millville old towns, preserved, stuck in time in the New Jersey Wilderness.

NJWG Glider Encampment - CFI G Training 2010
The New Jersey Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, Auxiliary of the US Airforce, has run a Glider training program since 2003. This year the Eagle Flight Glider Encampment is a ten day event from July 24, 2010 through August 1, 2010. It will be held at the Grimes Field in Bethel PA. Home of the Golden Age Air Museum. The evening of July 24, 2010 the Golden Age Air Museum will host a Sunset Flight Demostration of Antique Aircrafts from 6-8:00 PM. goldenageair.org
The Eagle Flight Glider Encampment is run by CAP volunteer senior member. The director, Colonel Cornelius (Mike) Flynn, of Glassboro New Jersey, has been in Civil Air Patrol since 2001 and has organized the twenty-six senior encampment staff members. Volunteer members include Commercial Glider Instructor pilots and tow pilots from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York. Other CAP volunteers from all walks of life include business professionls and parents who are providing operational and logistical support to the encampment.

The 1,200 plus CAP, New Jersey Wing volunteers are members of the 30 CAP squadron through out the New Jersey State. Nation wide there are over 58,000 Civil Air Patrol Members.
Cadets and Senior members are selected to attend the Eagle Glider Encampment through a competitive application process where by only the best and highest motivated are selected. Only 12 of the 20 cadets who applied for a spot in the Glider Program in early January were accepted. These cadets are motivated young adults, ages 15-17 years old, who are passionate about general aviation. The CAP Eagle Flight Glider Encampment is their first opportunity to learn to fly and earn their Glider solo wings.
New Jersey CAP also offers a powered aircraft encampment at Lakehurst NJ, known as the Falcon Flight Academy for older cadets. It is also a ten day encampment run by CAP senior member volunteers who teach the cadets to fly a Cessna 172 airplane. These cadets with the support of the Civil Air Patrol generally go on to earn their private pilots license.
The standards are very high for these young people and they must meet or exceed the Federal Aviation Administration guidelines for student solo pilots. In preparation for the Glider Encampment the students attended two weekends of classroom ground school training at McGuire AFB, the New Jersey Wing Civil Air Patrol headquarters. Additionally thay have been involved in a home study and online training courses to prepair them for the challenges they will face.
Recently on July 6, 2010; Katherine Maycock and Matt Cullen; two CAP senior members passed their FAA check rides and earned their Commercial Flight Instruction - Glider Rating. Both senior members will be Flight Instructors for this years Eagle Glider Encampment.

2011 4th of July Fireworks in Pittsburgh ~ the WORSE EVER (only the 1st 10 minutes version)
Pittsburgh is known as the Fireworks Capital of the United States. Zambelli Fireworks Internationale has traditionally lit up the skies at Pittsburgh's Fourth of July celebration,
HOWEVER, for this year's 4th of July, they switched to a company named Pyrotecnico. For over $100K, all we got was less than 3 minutes of visible fireworks, during a 25 minute show, because all Pyrotecnico did was create a huge dense cloud that TOTALLY OBSCURED viewing the fireworks from EVERY 360 degree vantage point
