White's Knob Access at Sleepy Creek WMA, West Virginia
Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area is situated in Berkeley and Morgan Counties, about 10 miles west of Martinsburg, in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. The area is just under 23,000 acres of rugged mountain terrain covered in pine - oak forests. There are a large number of trails in the area, though they vary wildly in maintenance...some being well maintained, blazed, and easy to follow, while others are hardly passable. Further complicating your visit, is that it seems the only map in existence is a 1970s era hand drawn sketch.
In this visit. I hike the Whites Knob Trail, Gum Springs Trail, Tuscarora Trail, Dug Road Trail, and Third Hill Mountain Trail in a loop hike to check out the remains of an abandoned coal mine. Come along and check out the hike. Thanks for watching!

Sleepy Creek Lake, West Virginia
Sleepy Creek Lake is located in the heart of the Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area. The 24,000 acre WMA lies in Berkeley and Morgan Counties, west of Martinsburg, in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. The 205 acre lake is an impoundment of Meadow Branch and sits entirely in Berkeley County, between Sleepy Creek Mountain and Third Hill Mountain. In this video, I drive out to the lake and take in the views from various access points along the roads. Thanks for watching!

South Branch Potomac West Virginia Canoe Trip
8 hours canoe trip on South Branch Potomac in West Virginia. Nephew Jimmy North, cousin Bill Scott, and me on a beautiful early fall day. The valley of the South Branch is known for its pastoral scenery. Its upper valley, near Moorefield, WV, opens into one of the largest areas of level land in West Virginia and is part of one of the most productive agricultural areas in the Mountain State. The valley's skylines are dominated by the long parallel ridges of South Branch Mountain, to the east, and Patterson Creek Mountain, to the west, both of which rise to more than 2,000 feet above the floor of the valley.
Downstream of this large level area, the South Branch runs between two long narrow ridges -- through what is popularly known as The Trough.

Berkeley County, West Virginia Government/Police and Foreclosure Auctions
Berkeley County, West Virginia Government/Police and Foreclosure Auctions
Government, police and foreclosure auctions in or near Berkeley County, West Virginia are a great way to find low prices on things you need. These auctions happen regularly, but many people do not even know they exist. The auctions are held by state and local governments, police stations, and banking institutions. Items like cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, boats, jet skis, motorcycles, commercial equipment, or residential homes are auctioned off to the highest bidder. Because these items are not listed on the open market in Berkeley County, there is less competition to buy them.
Government and police auctions are held to liquidate surplus equipment, or items that were confiscated in Berkeley County or nearby criminal cases in West Virginia. The cars, boats and other items put up for auction are often of a high quality. Participants bid on the items they are interested in, and the highest bidder is awarded the item. Because most people in Berkeley County do not bid on these auctions (or even know about them), you can sometimes get items for substantially less than their market value. Local governments and the state of West Virginia sometimes bring homes to auction as well, after confiscating them due to unpaid property taxes.
Foreclosure auctions are held when a bank forecloses on a home in the Berkeley County area due to nonpayment of the mortgage. The house is then auctioned off to the highest bidder. Because the banks often have less money tied up in the house than a homeowner would (due to some of the mortgage payments having been paid to them by the previous owner), they are comfortable selling the home for a lower price than its typical Berkeley County market value. This can be a great way to get a cheap home - just be sure to do your due diligence before buying.
If you are in need of an automobile, motorcycle, watercraft, house, or commercial equipment, it is worth checking out any government, police and foreclosure auctions in Berkeley County and nearby areas of West Virginia.
