Hard To Pronounce Michigan Places | Pure Michigan
Have you ever wondered how Michigan was named Michigan? Before colonization, the now Great Lakes State was home to at least eight Native American tribes throughout the land, one of which being the Ojibwe Indians. The Ojibwe were the first people to openly interact with the French in Michigan, trading furs and knowledge of the area for guns and goods. Through translation, the state of Michigan was named after the Ojibwe Indian word “Michigama,” which means “great lake” or “land surrounded by water.”
With this in mind, we invite you to take a watch some Michiganders stumble their way through some uniquely-named destinations found across the Great Lakes State. Test yourself and learn the correct pronunciations here:
Muskallonge Lake State Park - Upper Peninsula of Lake Michigan
A drive through the Muskallonge State Park campground in Newberyy, Michigan. This is a great little campground that sits on Muskallonge Lake with Lake Superior just across the street. There are electrical hookups and water is available throughout the campground. There is a nice bath house and a dump station before you exit the campground with trash dumpsters.
Let's Visit Big Rapids, MI
Big Rapids is located along US 131 in western Lower Michigan not far south of Cadillac, MI. I check out the downtown area, some sights around Ferris State University, and then finish the video at Hemlock Park with sights of the Muskegon River.

Vacation Station RV Park Ludington Michigan - CampgroundViews.com
Vacation Station RV Park in Ludington Michigan offers full hookup RV camping in a manicured setting. With all paved roads and large concrete parking pads this is by far the fanciest park in the area and arguably one of the fancier parks in the country. Everything is perfectly manicured and designed for an elegant ambiance. Carrying on the ‘Station’ theme with train station inspired street names and branding. Tucked off US 10 guests enter the park via a paved entry road that takes guests back in to a quiet area surrounded by trees and brush. The office has a small store, with a smallish pool (for the size of the park) and a very nice kids playground. The sites are situated on a few campground loops with pull thru and backin options available. A newer area has a bunch of large pull thrus, bathhouse and backins on the perimeter.
This park is an RV park in every sense of the word with all the amenities and sites perfectly suited to RV camping. There are seasonal sites but all are primed and proper. In addition the park has a few rental cottages available. Sites have picnic tables and fire rings.
Located along the urban corridor east of Downtown Ludington Vacation Station RV Park is close to the fairgrounds and within walking distance of restaurants and Walmart. Advanced reservations are recommended.

Newaygo State Park, MI from Joshua M.

Joshua M.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Hamocker's Paradise
This site turned out to be a diamond in the rough. Due to our lack of planning and seeking reservations, Newaygo State Park was one of the few campsites with short notice availability. As we entered we were greeted by spacious plots with enough treeline between them to cover up even the loudest of snorers. We took the next few minutes mapping out our perfect hammock setup. With so many options, we settled on our spots and built up the rest of camp.
Nestled in and ready to explore, we walked to the edge of our site to the head of the beach trail to check out what we had gotten ourselves into. Less than a mile hike later and we made it to the 'beach front'.
It wasn't much. The shallow buoyed off swim area was sandy, yet immediately upon passing the buoys we were met by very thick seaweed. Nonetheless, the view was breathtaking, there are plenty of lookout points over the lake to spend quiet time posted up in a hammock reading or whatever else you do in a hammock.
Nighttime came and we were around the fire. We read that quiet hours start at 10:00 so being conscious of the expectations we kept our conversation at a low level and had light music playing from a phone. Around 11:10 a park ranger stopped by asking us to turn off the music, no big. But it seemed to us that no music after quiet hours should also be a part of the rules. All in all, we had an amazing weekend and we're all looking forward to our next weekend spent here. Thanks, Newaygo State Park!
