THE ULTIMATE CAPE TOWN TRAVEL GUIDE
DETAIL & MORE INFO OF THE PLACES I’VE MENTIONED DOWN BELOW! :)
A friend of mine asked me how I would spend my time if I had only eight hours in Cape Town. And I told him to hit these Cape Town hot spots.
So if you have eight hours of exploring and sightseeing ahead of you, the best way to get going would be to start your day with the best coffee in Cape Town, at Rosetta Roastery, their coffee will not only kick-off your busy day, but will change your definition of a good cup of coffee.
Okay, call your Uber driver, we are heading towards the central part of Cape Town. In London you would take the London Eye to see the city from above, and in Paris you’ll get your Eiffel tower ticket stamped – in Cape Town, we drive up to Signal Hill, but before we go there, be sure to stop at, what is known as the “Bo-Kaap” (“Upper Cape Town”) to see this part of Cape Town and Cape culture.
This area was formerly known as the Malay Quarter and is known for its brightly colored homes and cobble stoned streets. Defiantly worth a fraction of our eight hour day.
So you’ve tasted great coffee, experience a small part of Cape culture, and now let’s see if we can get you a half decent view of the Mother City. As I’ve said, we are on our way to Signal Hill, and not Table Mountain, and I’ll just leave it to my past self to explain to you why.
“It is less congested than Table Mountain, You can come here whenever you want to, it’s free and you get amazing views.”
I know it’s pretty up there, but time is ticking and we have a few more stops to make, so let’s hit the road.
O yes, let me just pull over here, I need to mention this. If you are of the active type, and you have the time, you will thoroughly enjoy climbing Lion’s Head.
Just a few minutes’ drive from Signal Hill we find Camps Bay. Let’s have a look around, and I’ll tell you what you can do here. This is the beautiful Camps Bay you can spend a whole day at the beach or entertain yourself at the promenade and street stalls.
As you can see it wasn’t quite a beach day and I wasn’t in the mood for shopping, so on to our next Point of Interest.
We take Victoria road, right through to Beach road to get to the Sea Point Promenade.
This is the place where the locals exercise and take pictures that make you want to plan your next holiday to Cape Town.
Enjoy the ocean with the mountain as a backdrop, take a few photos or enjoy watching the locals as they do their thing.
Now let’s head back into town, but before we do that, let’s first make a stop at Cape Town Stadium.
Here you can enjoy this magnificent Cape Town landmark while having a picnic on the grass or just stretching your legs and taking in even more of the Cape Town vibe.
When you are done at the stadium, you can literary just walk over to our last stop which will be at the V&A, the v n a shopping center.
Here you’ll find restaurants, shops, and parking that have a view – it will come at a premium of course but it’s worth it!
And at the V&A there’s something for everyone to do.
If you are not interested in shopping you can always just take the V&A breakwater walkway and enjoy a casual stroll along the shore.
And that my dear internet friends, is how I would spend eight hours in Cape Town.

Bikini beauty 2011 - Egypt is located in the northeast corner of the African continent, on the Mediterranean Sea, at a crossroad between Africa, Asia and Europe.
It is bordered to the east by the Red Sea, Gaza and Israel to the northeast, Libya to the west, and Sudan to the south. The country is divided into 4 main geological areas.
The Nile Valley and Delta extends on both sides of the Nile from the southern limit of the river going through Aswan, Luxor, to reach Cairo, then ramifying to the north and encompassing the destinations of Damietta and Rosetta.
These ramifications, north of Cairo form the Nile Delta, Egypt’s most fertile agricultural land. The Western Desert extends from the Nile Valley in the east to the Egypt-Libyan border in the west and from the Mediterranean coast in the north to the southern Egyptian border, it is one of Egypt’s most arid regions.
Sparsely inhabited yet charming oases Siwa, Bahariya, Farafra, Kharga and Dakhla dot this extensive region. The Eastern Desert lies between the Nile Valley to the west, the Red Sea and Gulf of Suez to the east, Lake Manzala to the north and the Sudanese border to the south.
This arid region embraces the Red Sea Mountains chain. The region is Egypt’s richest in natural resources. Its underground treasures include gems, coal and oil.
The Sinai Peninsula is a triangularly shaped plateau linked from its northwestern corner to Egypt’s mainland, at the Gulf of Suez. The peninsula is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Gulf of Aqaba to the east.
This area is divided into a southern section, the middle section and the northern section. Egypt is home to a multicultural society. Ethnic Egyptians constitute the large majority of Egypt's total population whereas Egypt's minorities include Nubians, Berbers, Bedouins, Arabs, Turks, and Greeks, additionally to small tribal communities: the Bejas and Doms.
The former are concentrated in the southeastern corner of Egypt, and the latter live mostly in the Nile Delta and the Fayoum oasis. Egypt is also known for the varied forms of folk art and dances, proper to each region of the country. While inhabitants of Suez, Ismailiya and Port Said are famous for group dances accompanied by music played on the traditional semsomiya, the southern population of Al-Saeed are known for their logging and equestrian inspired dances.
Nubian dances are probably the most colorful and joyful folkloric performances; Nubians wear colorful costumes and dance to the enticing rhythms of Nubian songs.
The folkloric Sinai dance is one where the dancers wear beautiful hand-embroidered dresses and perform a sword-dance. Monuments in Egypt such as the Giza pyramid complex and its Great Sphinx were constructed by its ancient civilization. Its ancient ruins, such as those of Memphis, Thebes, and Karnak and the Valley of the Kings outside Luxor, are a significant focus of archaeological study.
The economy of Egypt is one of the most diversified in the Middle East, with sectors such as tourism, agriculture, industry and service at almost equal production levels. In early 2011, Egypt underwent a revolution, which resulted in the ousting of President Hosni Mubarak after nearly 30 years in power.
Egypt debuted in 1953 and won the pageant in 1954 with Antigone Costanda. Donia Hamed Soliman will represent Egypt in Miss World 2011.

Axum or Aksum is a city in northern Ethiopia. The town has a population of 56,500 residents (2010), and is governed as an urban wäräda.
The original capital of the Kingdom of Aksum, it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in Africa. Axum was a naval and trading power that ruled the region from about 400 BC into the 10th century. In 1980 UNESCO added Aksum's archaeological sites to its list of World Heritage Sites due to their historic value.
Located in the Mehakelegnaw Zone of the Tigray Region near the base of the Adwa mountains, Axum has an elevation of 2,131 metres (6,991 ft). Axum is surrounded by La'ilay Maychew wäräda.
The major Aksumite monuments in the town are stelae. These obelisks are around 1,700 years old and have become a symbol of the Ethiopian people's identity.[12] The largest number are in the Northern Stelae Park, ranging up to the 33-metre-long (3.84 metres wide, 2.35 metres deep, weighing 520 tonnes) Great Stele, believed to have fallen and broken during construction. The Obelisk of Axum (24.6 metres high, 2.32 metres wide, 1.36 metres deep, weighing 170 tonnes) was removed by the Italian army in 1937, and returned to Ethiopia in 2005 and reinstalled July 31, 2008. This stele was already broken into pieces before being shipped. The next tallest is the 24-metre (20.6 metres high above the front baseplate, 2.65 metres wide, 1.18 metres deep, weighing 160 tonnes) King Ezana's Stele. Three more stelae measure 18.2 metres high, 1.56 metres wide, 0.76 metres deep, weighing 56 tonnes; 15.8 metres high, 2.35 metres wide, 1 metres deep, weighing 75 tonnes; 15.3 metres high, 1.47 metres wide, 0.78 metres deep, weighing 43 tonnes.[14] The stelae are believed to mark graves and would have had cast metal discs affixed to their sides, which are also carved with architectural designs. The Gudit Stelae to the west of town, unlike the northern area, are interspersed with mostly 4th century tombs.
The other major feature of the town are the Old and New Cathedrals of St Mary of Zion. The Old St Mary of Zion Cathedral was built in 1665 by Emperor Fasilides and said to have previously housed the Ark of the Covenant. The original cathedral, said to have been built by Ezana and augmented several times after was believed to have been massive with 12 naves. It was burned to the ground by Gudit, rebuilt, and then destroyed again during the Gragn wars of the 1500s. It was again rebuilt by Emperor Gelawdewos (completed by his brother and successor Emperor Minas) and Emperor Fasilides replaced that structure with the present one. Only males are permitted entry into the Old St. Mary's Cathedral (some say as a result of the destruction of the original church by Gudit). The New Cathedral of St. Mary of Zion stands next to the old one, and was built to fulfill a pledge by Emperor Haile Selassie to the Our Lady of Zion for the liberation of Ethiopia from the Fascist occupation. Built in a neo-Byzantine style, work on the new cathedral began in 1955, and allows admittance to women. Emperor Haile Selassie interrupted the state visit of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II to travel to Axum to attend the dedication of the new Cathedral and pay personal homage, showing the importance of this church in the Ethiopian Empire. The Queen visited the Cathedral a few days later. Between the two cathedrals is a small chapel known as The Chapel of the Tablet built at the same time as the new cathedral, and which is believed to house the Ark of the Covenant. Emperor Haile Selassie's consort, Empress Menen, paid for its construction from her private funds. Admittance to the chapel is closed to all but the guardian monk who resides there. Entrance is even forbidden to the Patriarch of the Orthodox Church, and to the Emperor of Ethiopia during the monarchy. The two cathedrals and the chapel of the Ark are the focus of pilgrimage and considered the holiest sites in Ethiopia to members of its Orthodox Church.
Other attractions in Axum include archaeological and ethnographic museums, the Ezana Stone written in Sabaean, Ge'ez and Ancient Greek in a similar manner to the Rosetta Stone, King Bazen's Tomb (a megalith considered to be one of the earliest structures), the so-called Queen of Sheba's Bath (actually a reservoir), the 4th-century Ta'akha Maryam and 6th-century Dungur palaces, the monasteries of Abba Pentalewon and Abba Liqanos and the Lioness of Gobedra rock art.Local legend claims the Queen of Sheba lived in the town.
