Samnaun, Switzerland
September 2017 trip to eastern Switzerland. Lovely place, far from the madding crowd.
Avalanche in the Lower Engadine in Switzerland
An avalanche decline near Vinadi in the Lower Engadine. The Lower Engadine, with its holiday resorts of Scuol, Samnaun and Zernez, its picturesque mountain villages and the Swiss National Park, guarantees a relaxing and active holiday: hiking, biking, rafting and nature experiences are the order of the day. Many pass crossings make attractive discovery trips to neighboring valleys and countries possible.
Enjoy the valley of the young Inn excellent on foot, on the bike or rafting. The hike along the Engadine mountain trail Via Engiadina (over 60 kilometers from Maloja to Scuol) along the sunny side of the Inn Valley is one of the most beautiful hiking experiences in Switzerland on its section in the Lower Engadine. Those who prefer to experience the Inntal in a bicycle saddle, at least take a part of the Inn cycle path, which begins in St. Moritz and ends in Budapest, under the wheels. The whitewater canyons of the Inn are undoubtedly one of the best rafting routes in the Alps from late May to late September.
The village of Zernez, with its location as the gateway to the national park, is the ideal starting point for discovering Switzerland's largest wilderness with its wealth of alpine animals and plants. Finally, Samnaun is Switzerland's only toll-free region. The place offers in summer a variety of theme trails in intact landscape. In winter, the place is popular because of the extensive common ski arena with the Austrian Ischgl.
The Lower Engadin is an Eldorado for passionate passers-by. In Susch not far from Zernez begins the ascent to Flüela Pass (2383m), which connects the Lower Engadine with Davos. The Ofen Pass leads through the Swiss National Park into the Münstertal, from where the Umbrail continues to the Stelvio Pass. An attractive day trip in the border triangle Switzerland - Italy - Austria follows the Münstertal further into the Italian Vinschgau, over the Reschenpass and a few kilometers over Austrian territory back to the Lower Engadine.

AROSA SWITZERLAND - Swiss Alps
CAMERA USED IN THIS VIDEO:
Arosa Switzerland - Swiss Alps
The tradition-rich Grisons holiday resort of Arosa is located at the end of the romantic Schanfigg Valley at an altitude of about 1800 metres above sea level. With its impressive range of mountain peaks all around, Arosa Lenzerheide is just as attractive for extended hiking tours in summer as it is in winter, offering a great variety of snow sport activities.
Because of its location at the bottom of a wide valley, Arosa is very sunny and to a great extent sheltered from strong winds. As there is no transit traffic, the air is particularly pure which is why Arosa has been a famous Alpine health resort since 1877. Arosa is accessible by Rhaetian Railways from Chur or by car across over 365 serpentines and through several tunnels, past the smaller holiday resort of Langwies.
The Arosa All-inclusive Card, which is free for any overnight stay (apartment, hotel or camp site), entitles Arosa guests to a wide variety of free offers! This card includes the usage of the aerial tramways to Hörnli and Weisshorn, access to the rope park, entrance to the local history museum, pedalo rentals and much more.
The holiday region of Arosa is just as varied in summer as it is in winter. The cable car connecting the Arosa Hörnli with the Lenzerheide Urdenfürggli is a comfortable possibility for guests to switch back and forth between the two resorts.
Arosa alone boasts more than 200 km of different hiking and walking trails. A hiking tour to be especially recommended is the 10 lakes hike, a tour of 15 km leading from one crystal-clear mountain lake to the next. Then there’s the Schanfigg circuit from Chur to Arosa and back with its many traditional cozy mountain cabins, nicely cultivated stretches of land and alpine pastures.
For mountainbike enthusiasts, a multitude of trails are available in Arosa as well as in Lenzerheide, where there is the additional possibility to use the bike park and the skill center as well as a bike school. Many biking events are organized for visitors to watch or participate in.
Ischgl | Austria | Crystal Ski Holidays
High in the Paznaun valley, Ischgl has developed from a farming village into a bustling resort with a buzzing nightlife. The village retains its traditional charm but around each corner you'll find boutique shops, top-class restaurants and glitzy bars and clubs.
The Silvretta area lift pass gives access to Ischgl and Galtür (a 10-minute free ski bus away), 330 km of pistes, amazing off-piste and some of the best snowboarding in the Alps. The area also enjoys excellent snow records until late into the season and you can ski 2 countries in a day, with some great runs down into Samnaun in Switzerland.
This winter, why don't you step out your comfort zone and try out Ischgl's brand new Sky Fly - an exhilarating 2km-long zip wire that runs from the Silvrettabahn mid-station to the Pardatschgratbahn valley station. Two parallel wires mean that two people can race down into the valley together, taking in all the fabulous views on the way.
New for winter 16/17, the resort is finally making the most of its proximity to the Swiss resort of Samnaun - a duty-free haven which has encouraged smugglers across the border. Marked 'smugglers routes' can now be followed using the iSki Ischgl App, with the most extensive 'gold' circuit covering 35.7km kilometres of piste, with a total vertical of 6,463m. Those who successfully complete their chosen circuit can enter prize draws every day, weekly and for each season.
