Ruidoso is a premier resort destination in Southern New Mexico. Ruidoso is a small mountain village located in Lincoln County in the Sacramento Mountains of South Central New Mexico. The community of 8,000 people sits at an elevation of over 7,000 feet, which makes Ruidoso the most popular tourism destination in the region. The Village of Ruidoso is governed by a Mayor, Village Council and Village Manager and Staff. The Village offers a wide range of services to its residents, including the Sierra Blanca Regional Airport.
Ruidoso is surrounded by over a million acres of forest and wilderness. The Lincoln National Forest, the White Mountain Wilderness Area and the Bureau of Land Management’s Fort Stanton National Conservation Area offer hundreds of miles of multi-use trails and is an ideal destination for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and camping. Ruidoso is located in the Smokey Bear Ranger District for the Lincoln National Forest. Smokey Bear, the bear cub that became the symbol of forest fire prevention, was rescued by firefighters from Fort Bliss Army Base after a forest fire in the Capitan Mountains in 1950. After his passing in 1976, Smokey was returned home to Capitan and now rests at the Smokey Bear Historical Park.
The Ruidoso Downs Racetrack and Casino located in nearby Ruidoso Downs brings tens of thousands of visitors to the area during racing season, Memorial Day through Labor Day. The All-American Futurity is held annually on Labor Day; the race is the richest quarter horse race in the world with a purse of over $3 million.
Adjacent to Ruidoso one may also find the Mescalero Apache Reservation. The Mescalero Apache are native to this region; the present reservation was established in 1883. The 463,000 acre reservation lies on the eastern flank of the Sacramento Mountains and borders the Lincoln National Forest. The Mescalero Tribe owns and operates both Ski Apache and the Inn of the Mountain Gods, the areas only full service resort hotel.
The Ruidoso Valley Chamber of Commerce is the most vibrant organization in the Ruidoso community. With 500 members from all segments of the Ruidoso area business community, the Chamber is a proactive force that is engaged with the community and provides essential services to our local businesses. The Chamber organizes three of the biggest events of the year: The Ruidoso Art Festival, a juried fine arts show that takes place during the last weekend in July, the Aspenfest Parade, held on the first Saturday of October, and the Festival of Lights Parade held on the first Saturday night in December.

This drive begins on Interstate 10, east of Tucson, headed westbound. I was searching for a good place to photograph the sunset, so without any idea what I'd find, I turned off the Interstate and headed down AZ 83, the Sonoita Mountain Highway. I ended up at a great spot at the perfect time to capture a beautiful sunset, at a scenic overlook in the Sonoita Mountains.

White Oak Lake, completed in 1961 about 18 miles northwest of Camden and some 22 miles southeast of Prescott, ranks second in size among the lake constructed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC). Though totaling 2,667 acres, Ark. 347 divides it into an upper lake of 1,032 acres and a 1,645-acre lower lake. This lake has a reputation for producing big fish. A state record catfish was taken from White Oak Lake in 1985. Big Largemouth bass exceeding eight pounds, crappie of up to three pounds and bream to 1.5 pounds, are not uncommon, according to the AGFC, which attributes the numbers of large fish to a lake fertilization program. The AGFC maintains three concrete boat ramps on the lower lake and two on the upper lake, a well as a barrier-free fishing pier on the upper lake. White Oak Lake State Park, located on a western arm of the upper lake, offers 45 campsites, a marina with fishing boat and motor rentals, a barrier-free fishing pier, picnic sites, hiking trails, and a playground. Abundant in wildlife, the park has regular sightings of great blue heron, egret, osprey, green heron, and bald eagles are often spotted in the winter. Trails wind through the park's woodlands. The first step to start getting to know the Oldest City in the United States, St Augustine, in Florida, is to hop on the Red Train and take an 80–90 minute, fully narrated historical tour of the Nation’s Oldest City.
In it, you´ll cover over 7 miles and visit dozens of historic sites.
The tours are Hop on Hop Off, so you can get in or out on any stop; as trains run continuously from 8:30 AM to 5PM, and they run every 15 to 20 minutes.

A Visit to Slide Rock Park Near Sedona, Arizona
Watch HD clips from Slide Rock Park, named after the famous Slide Rock, a stretch of slippery creek bottom including a natural water chute. Filmed on a balmy Arizona day in April 2013, this video shows the chute as well as deeper pool areas where swimmers can jump off short cliffs into the water. The water temperature the day this was filmed was a chilly 52F, but that didn't stop most vacationers have jumping in and having fun.

Buxton Hall's chef and pitmaster Elliott Moss will be the first to tell you he's not classically trained. In fact, he got his start in the kitchen of a South Carolina Chick-fil-A. After years of chasing his dream of opening up a BBQ restaurant, Moss opened Buxton Hall in Asheville, NC.
You can smell great barbecue long before you walk through the door.
Outside Buxton Hall Barbecue, it’s no different: The air hangs with the faintly smoky aroma of crispy pork. It only intensifies as you enter the brick-walled space, past T-shirts for sale (my favorite: SMOKED WHILE YOU SLEEP). In the open kitchen, pitmaster Elliott Moss stands over a whole pig, picking and chopping hunks of smoked meat. This is hog heaven.
We’re in the midst of a barbecue boom. Old-school joints are getting their due, and new-school smokehouses like Buxton Hall are proudly carrying on the tradition while shaking things up. Here barbecue means local pasture-raised pig (not the usual commodity stuff) smoked 18 hours over oak, cherry, and hickory. The pork is juicy and sweet and melts in your mouth. It’s how Moss learned it from his grandfather growing up in Florence, South Carolina.
The egg-enriched buttermilk mixture makes for an especially crunchy and craggy coating. This recipe is from Buxton Hall, one of the Hot 10, America's Best New Restaurants 2016.

Good ’cue isn’t the only thing that makes the experience. The fried chicken sandwich—the meat smoked before it hits the fryer—was the best version of that now ubiquitous dish I had all year. Mussels, which should have no business in a barbecue joint, were so good I sopped up the smoked tomato sauce with buttermilk hushpuppies.
Sides, so forgettable at other spots, are anything but. Green beans catch drippings beneath the pigs; collards swim with swine bits and cider vinegar; potatoes are smoked, mashed, and topped with hog gravy. A twist on the classics with one thing in common: the flavors of the pig. And that’s what Buxton Hall is all about.

The juicy fried chicken sandwich is topped with creamy white barbecue sauce and pimiento cheese and a slice of American cheese. Sides, often forgettable at other barbecue places, allow Moss to flex his creative muscles: green beans cook under the pig, catching all those fatty drippings; potatoes are smoked, then mashed and topped with hog gravy; braised collard greens are swimming with swine bits and a healthy spike of cider vinegar. All these twists on the classics have one thing in common—the flavors of the pig. Ultimately, that's what Buxton Hall is all about.
