Cherry Goes Nuts - Summer Fun Retro Vacation Travel Roadside Attraction Road Trip Tour
Miss Cherry Capri goes on another fun retro vacation travel roadside attraction road trip tour and visits Alamogordo, New Mexico to see the World's Largest Pistachio Nut in front of McGinn's Pistachio Tree Ranch near White Sands National Monument and ends up at the home of America's Park Ride Train Museum...
The 30 ft. high pistachio is on Highway 54 between Alamogordo and Tularosa NM. This sculpture was built by Bar M Construction and contains 5 yards of concrete and is covered by about 35 gallons of paint. A plaque at the base honors the founder of Tree Farm, the late Tom McGinn, who loved visiting roadside attractions or Americana, as he called it. There's a gift shop with an animatronic old western cowboy.
Also featured is the Alamogordo Toy Train Depot and Museum which is New Mexico's first railroad museum, open year round and is located at the North end of Alameda Park on White Sands Blvd. The depot structure itself served as a full size train depot in Corona, New Mexico until 1974 when it was moved to Alamogordo. Now over 100 years old it serves riders of a relaxing two and a half mile miniature train route and houses a fun and interesting train museum. The Alameda Park narrow gauge railway runs a replica F7 Diesel Baltimore and Ohio train on 16 track.
P.S.

Ruta 66 (Texas - Oklahoma - New Mexico)
11 days journey by car along the legendary and mythical Route 66, through the states of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, United States of America. (Each and every one of the towns/cities that are described below, in addition to others not named and which form part of the route, have their personal charm and touristic attractions of greater or lesser nature I won´t describe, but that are easy to find on Google).
The route begins in the city of Dallas (Sixth floor Museum, where J.F.K was murdered) along the I35 toward Oklahoma City (monument in honor of the terrorist attack in 1995) alternating I40 with the original Route 66 is passed by the villages El Reno, Clinton, Elk City, AMARILLO (Palo Duro Canyon, The Big Texan restaurant), Vega, Adrian, Glenrio (village on the border of Texas and New Mexico totally abandoned), San Jon, TUCUMCARI and Clines Corners.
At this point we detour to Santa Fe (adobe houses) for the road 285, leaving the original route, then return to the I25 to go to ALBUQUERQUE (Isotopes baseball team).
In Albuquerque we leave completely the Route 66 to visit the most interesting villages of New Mexico. From Albuquerque, following by I25, passing through Belen and Socorro, we took the road 380 (previously visiting the Trinity Site, location of the first atomic bomb launch), until Carrizozo where we took the road 54 to Alamogordo and from there by the road 70 to the White Sands Desert and the Military missile tests Area.
Then again by the road 70, through Ruidoso, to Roswell (UFO'S museum) and taking the road 285 to Carlsbad, to visit the caves of the village. Once visited the caves continuing by the road 285 to Pecos to take the i20 throughout the states of Texas and New Mexico until again arrive to Dallas. In this way you can see a lot of oil towers and in the village of Odessa a meteorite crater.
I hope that you dare with this adventure. Specially I recommend you to stop at motels and petrol station abandoned along the original Route 66.
When dusk the cold feeling and environmental sounds are typical of a fear and terror movie or film.
