Pingyao, China 平遥古韵
我们远去的家园 之 平遥古韵。
Quoted from wikipedia:
Pingyao is a Chinese city and county in central Shanxi province. It lies about 715 km from Beijing and 80 km from the provincial capital, Taiyuan. During the Qing Dynasty, Pingyao was a financial center of China. It is now renowned for its well-preserved ancient city wall, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Pingyao still retains its city layout from the Ming and Qing dynasties, conforming to a typical bagua pattern. More than 300 sites in or near the city have ancient ruins. Preserved Ming- and Qing-style residences number close to 4,000. The streets and storefronts still largely retain their historical appearance.
In the Spring and Autumn Period, the county belonged to the kingdom of Jin. It was part of the kingdom of Zhao in the Warring States Period. In the Qin Dynasty, it was known as Pingtao. During the Han Dynasty, it was known as Zhongdu county. In 1986, the People's Republic of China designated Pingyao as one of the Chinese Historic and Cultural Cities. It became a World Heritage Site in 1997, included also the outlying Zhenguo Temple and Shuanglin Temple.

Return to Tohoku - The Road to Recovery
I recently participated in a one-week travel and exchange sponsored by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Travel Bureau. I had lived and worked in Miyagi prefecture in the northeast of Japan (Tohoku) for 2 years from 2005-2007 while on the JET Program (Japan Exchange and Teaching Program). Twenty alumni from this program were selected to return to their communities in the prefectures most affected by the earthquakes and tsunamis that took place in March this year. I have to say the people of Miyagi prefecture never fail to amaze me. The people there have been working hard to get their lives back to normal and in many ways are making their towns and communities even stronger. The kindest and most hospitable people you will meet. The thing that sticks with me most from this trip is the Japanese strong sense of pride and optimism about the future. It truly is a great place and one I highly recommend you consider visiting if ever the chance.
Beyond visiting this great area of Japan, I reccommend donating to an organization such as the Japanese Red Cross Society to show your continued support for the Tohoku region. They have set up a special website devoted to the earthquake and tsunami relief efforts here:
A couple of places you might want to check out:
(Informative Osaki City homepage with detailed English information for Iwadeyama and the surrounding towns.)
(Naruko Hot Spring Tourism Association website. This is the neighboring town to Iwadeyama. Seen a bit throughout the video. All in Japanese, but provides a lot of pictures of hotels, hot springs, sightseeing, and restaurants as well as contact information. Contact info. for tourism association at the bottom. For good English info. about Naruko Hot Spring visit the Osaki City website mentioned above.)
A big thanks to JJ O'Donoghue - producer & editor of the video.

☞ My comment
I traveled to Hoengseong-gun and stopped at Bumsan Dairy Farm. Bumsan Dairy Farm is a place to produce milk in a nature-friendly way. The overall management was so good that I was healing just by resting here. If you go to Hoengseong County in Gangwon province, I recommend you to visit Bumsan Dairy Farm.
