Aalst is a city and municipality on the Dender River, 31 kilometres northwest from Brussels. It is located in the Flemish province of East Flanders in the Denderstreek. The municipality comprises the city of Aalst itself and the villages of Baardegem, Erembodegem, Gijzegem, Herdersem, Hofstade, Meldert, Moorsel and Nieuwerkerken. Aalst is crossed by the Molenbeek-Ter Erpenbeek in Aalst and Hofstade. The current mayor of Aalst is Christoph D'Haese, from the New-Flemish Alliance party. The town has a long-standing feud with Dendermonde , which dates back from the Middle Ages.

1. St. Martin's Church Aalst
Saint Martin of Tours was the third bishop of Tours. He has become one of the most familiar and recognizable Christian saints in Western tradition. A native of Pannonia, he converted to Christianity at a young age. He served in the Roman cavalry in Gaul, but left military service at some point prior to 361, when he embraced Trinitarianism and became a disciple of Hilary of Poitiers, establishing the monastery at Ligugé. He was consecrated as Bishop of Caesarodunum in 371. As bishop, he was active in the suppression of the remnants of Gallo-Roman religion, but he opposed the violent persecution of the Priscillianist sect of ascetics. His life was recorded by a contemporary hagiographer, Sulpicius Severus. Some of the accounts of his travels may have been interpolated into his vita to valid...

Belgium is a dangerous country

On the train from Mettupullayam to Ooty (India), somebody has a
peculiar reason to call Belgium a dangerous country.

Aalst (6.28.10 Full HD)

I already was in the Belgian town of Aalst last Friday but I did a follow-up there today. This time however I had some spare time and spent it in the town center.
You get to see images of the old town and the central town square, or market, called Grote Markt (most Flemish towns and cities call their oldest large town square that way, by the way..)
At Grote Markt there was a Coca Cola bunny giving away free samples, which was quite refreshing considering the outside temperature being 31°C (or 87.8°F)
