Chongzhou is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, People's Republic of China, located about 37 kilometres west-southwest of downtown Chengdu. Originally constructed around 256 BC by the State of Qin as an irrigation and flood control project, it is still in use today. Along with the giant panda, the sanctuary is a refuge to other endangered species such as the red panda, the snow leopard, and the clouded leopard.
