Zoigê County is a county of Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan, China, bordering Gansu to the north. It is the northernmost county of the province. It is part of the Tibetan traditional region of Amdo. It has an area of 10,620 km2 and a population of 69,900, 90.4% of which are Tibetan people.

Panzhihua is a prefecture-level city located in the far south of Sichuan province, People's Republic of China, at the confluence of the Jinsha and Yalong Rivers. It has an administrative area of 74,423.42 square kilometres , and a population at the 2010 census of 1,214,121. 662,814 lived in the metropolitan area made of 3 urban districts.It is the only city in China named for a flower. Its economy relies almost entirely on its giant mine, one of the country's largest. The economy in Panzhihua is mainly centered on natural resource development, exploitation and industry. The city houses many migrants. It is a mountain city. In 2005 Panzhihua won the China Excellent Tourist City title, in 2008 it won the National Health City and the China Vanadium, Titanium titles.

The journey from Xiahe ( to Langmusi ( should to be a boring travel day. And you have to travel if you want to see something. However, it was a great day. Yes, we spent some hours in the bus. But the landscape was beautiful, especially because off the fresh snow form the night before. So, we really enjoyed this travel day from Xiahe to Langmusi.

Songpan was the 6th place we visited in our China Tour (see We arrived in Songpan in the afternoon. We had still some time to view the old town. The old town of Songpan has still its city walls with city gates. Within these city walls you find some nice streets and wooden bridges. The town suggests that you are in the old China.
The next day we visited Huanglong National Park. Huanglong was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1992. Huanglong is known for its colorful pools and the nice waterfalls. And indeed, it was awesome.
On our way from Songpan to Huanglong we passed a pass of 3960m altitude. Just before the top we came above the clouds. The view on the mountains with the Xuebao Ding (mountain of 5588m) was fantastic. On the way back we got the same surprise.

China 2010 08 02 Xinlong to Ganzi Xiang

Day 9 Aug 2nd, 2010 Travel from Xinlong to Ganzi Xiang in Sichuan PRC

A rather sleepless night. However, since I went to bed early around 10:00pm and was able to sleep until 1:00pm, that gave me a good rest. I work on the journal and then slept some more.

We had breakfast at the hotel in Xinlong. It was very good and simple. Boiled eggs, Rice Soup, greens, pastries and some tea.

Our revised destination, since the Horse Festival was cancelled, was for Ganzi. Although, Ganzi is only 100km away it took until 3pm to reach the Kang Ba Hotel. The hotel was a pleasant surprise. A three star, the hotel had all the key parts that everyone happy. Clean rooms, hot water and a standard toilet and shower.

The drive here was totally on one lane dirt roads. There were a few points when there was pavement. The total remoteness of these villages and towns became clear. There is only one road and that road is a 3,000 meter pass. No where did I see a supper Highway in Sichuan province. So that is the whole story. Villages in the mountains connected by a single line dirt road. That explains why there are few tour buses and still fewer tourist.

Yes, we took our time with many stops to take pictures and visited a few monasteries. Generally and nice day. After checking into the hotel we had a nice dinner at the hotel and the Mary and I went for a walk around the area. While out, we were treated to a fire works display. Mostly likely do to the in recognition of the Chinese Army.
