Clécy is a French Commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France. In 1932 it was awarded the title The Capital of Norman Switzerland by the Tourism Minister Monsieur Gourdeau.

1. Omaha Beach Saint Laurent Sur Mer
Omaha, commonly known as Omaha Beach, was the code name for one of the five sectors of the Allied invasion of German-occupied France in the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944, during World War II. 'Omaha' refers to a section of the coast of Normandy, France, facing the English Channel 8 kilometers long, from east of Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes to west of Vierville-sur-Mer on the right bank of the Douve River estuary and an estimated 150-foot tall cliffs. Landings here were necessary to link the British landings to the east at Gold with the American landing to the west at Utah, thus providing a continuous lodgement on the Normandy coast of the Bay of the Seine. BMW R1200RT - The Loire Valley Tour 2018

Hi, thanks for dropping in....

I really hope you enjoy this video of our recent trip to the beautiful Loire Valley and surrounding areas in France.

Our route took us from Portsmouth to Cherbourg on the fast boat, well worth the extra cost as the sailing time is reduced from 5 hours on the boat from Newhaven to Dieppe to 3 hours from Portsmouth to Cherbourg.

Our journey from Cherbourg to Angers took us 4 hours including stops. We chose to take the motorways and toll roads to save time. Cost for tolls was £14.50

The French people are extremely considerate to motorcyclists and will more often than not move over so you can make a safe overtake, they even stop on a roundabout to allow a group of bikes to pass through, you certainly wouldn't get that in the UK!

The countryside is stunning, even their roads are in tip top condition with the verges and hedges neatly manicured, a complete opposite to the UK. We visited some stunning places and was extremely lucky with the weather as we only had 30 minutes of rain during the week.

The temperature during the day reached a high of 34C which proved to be a tad hot. Next time I shall be sporting a mesh jacket to keep cool.

On our return to the UK we stopped off in Clecy for lunch and Honfleur for dinner, both places are well worth a visit. We then sailed back to Newhaven from Dieppe on the overnight boat.

In total we did 1065 miles on the BMW and as always she did us proud apart from when due to a lack of top fuel I had to put Super Ethylene in the tank, a lack of power was noticeable with reduced MPG from a usual 48 to 49 mpg to a pitiful 36 mpg.

Finally I would like to say a big thank you to the guys and girls who made our trip a nice one.
