Jim Morrison´s Grave In Paris
James Douglas Morrison (8 December 1943 3 July 1971) was an American singer, poet, songwriter, writer, and film director. He is best known as the lead singer and lyricist of The Doors, and is widely considered to be one of the most charismatic frontmen in rock music history. He was also the author of several books of poetry, and the director of a documentary and short film.
Morrison moved to Paris in March 1971, taking up residence in an apartment. By all accounts Morrison became depressed while in Paris, and was planning to return to the US; however, he admired the city's architecture and would go for long walks through the city.
Morrison died on July 3, 1971, at age 27.
Morrison is buried in the Père Lachaise cemetery in eastern Paris, one of the city's most visited tourist attractions. The grave had no official marker until French officials placed a shield over it, which was stolen in 1973. In 1981, Croatian sculptor Mladen Mikulin placed a bust of Morrison and the new gravestone with Morrison's name at the grave to commemorate the 10th anniversary of his death; the bust was defaced through the years by the cemetery vandals and later stolen in 1988. In the 1990s a flat stone was placed on the grave, possibly by his birth family, with the Greek inscription: ΚΑΤΑ ΤΟΝ ΔΑΙΜΟΝΑ ΕΑΥΤΟΥ. Mikulin later made two more Morrison's portraits in bronze, but is awaiting the license to place a new sculpture on the tomb.

Père Lachaise Cemetery (French: Cimetière du Père-Lachaise; officially, cimetière de l'Est, East Cemetery) is the largest cemetery in the city of Paris, France at (48 ha, 118.6 acres)[1], though there are larger cemeteries in the city's suburbs.
Père Lachaise is one of the most famous cemeteries in the world. Located in the 20th arrondissement, it is reputed to be the world's most-visited cemetery, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually to the graves of those who have enhanced French life over the past 200 years. It is also the site of three World War I memorials.
Père Lachaise is located on Boulevard de Ménilmontant. Métro station Philippe Auguste on line 2 is next to the main entrance, while the station called Père Lachaise, on line 3, is 500 metres away near a side entrance. Many tourists prefer the Gambetta station on line 3 as it allows them to enter near the tomb of Oscar Wilde and then walk downhill to visit the rest of the cemetery.
Walking through Paris looking for Jim Morrison
In Paris, for the first time, the first thing I did was hop on Le Métero de Paris and find my way to Cemetery Pere-Lachaise home to Jim's last home and many that of many other famous, but lesser known Parisians.
OK, that was biased, they're probably all more famous than Jim, but he's the only one with a fenced off grave. The Cemetery is enormous! When I got there, I thought I could just walk right in and follow the signs to Jim's grave - I ended up wandering for about an hour and a half before I finally found it. You know you're close when you start seeing the etchings - not just for Jim, but for John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, and all sorts of other random things on long forgotten mausoleums that have been left to the elements without maintenance which makes them all the more interesting.
In the end, I found Jim, but he was fenced off.
