Cricqueville-en-Bessin is a commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France. The municipality takes its name from its deep-water creek that forms a natural harbor, from Crycavilla.

1. Omaha Beach Saint Laurent Sur Mer
Omaha, commonly known as Omaha Beach, was the code name for one of the five sectors of the Allied invasion of German-occupied France in the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944, during World War II. 'Omaha' refers to a section of the coast of Normandy, France, facing the English Channel 8 kilometers long, from east of Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes to west of Vierville-sur-Mer on the right bank of the Douve River estuary and an estimated 150-foot tall cliffs. Landings here were necessary to link the British landings to the east at Gold with the American landing to the west at Utah, thus providing a continuous lodgement on the Normandy coast of the Bay of the Seine. Took a trip from 7 sep - 13 sep to France. We landed in Paris, and took day trips out to Versailles, the Loire Valley and Mont Saint Michel in Normandy. Definitely used our feet, the taxis, TGV, the bus, and even rented a car to get around.

FE DE ERRORES: A través de la asociación D-Day Overlord ahora sabemos que el veterano americano George G. Klein, a quien mencionamos en el capítulo, ni escaló ni combatió en dicha batalla. No es el primer caso de auténticos veteranos de la Segunda Guerra Mundial que, habiendo combatido en campañas y unidades menos conocidas, se atribuyen la participación en la batalla de Normandía y en unidades de élite, quizá en busca de reconocimiento.
Desde Tropa Guripa solo podemos reconocer nuestro error al no haber contrastado bien la información. Aunque siempre nos queda el consuelo de no haber sido los únicos, ya que Klein logró hacerse pasar por un Ranger durante años a ojos de todo el mundo.

Normandy - Dead Man's Corner

The final days of our holiday in Normandy, June, 2010, we visited Dead Man's Corner museum, made famous by the TV series Band of Brothers and computer game Brothers in Arms. Dead Man's Corner was CP and aid station to the 6th Fallschirmjager Regiment who help the crossroads to Carentan. The US 101st Airborne had to take the town as a priority mission following D-Day landings.
We finished our visit at the seaside.
